'We Referred Bob Rubin To DOJ For Prosecution'
OUTSTANDING 2-MINUTE CLIP
"There were 40 billion in criminal fines but apparently no criminals."
Wednesday on CNBC, Phil Angelides, former chairman of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, discusses the commission's referral to Eric Holder and Lanny Breuer, recommending the investigation and prosecution of Bob Rubin, Chuck Prince and Stanley O'Neal (among others), which, as you know because you read Daily Bail, was completely ignored by the Covington & Burling Department of Justice.

The firm, Covington & Burling, is one of Washington's biggest white shoe law firms. Law professors and other federal ethics experts said that federal conflict of interest rules required Holder and Breuer to recuse themselves from any Justice Department decisions relating to law firm clients they personally had done work for.
Reuters reported in December that under Holder and Breuer, the Justice Department hasn't brought any criminal cases against big banks or other companies involved in mortgage servicing, even though copious evidence has surfaced of apparent criminal violations in foreclosure cases.
The evidence, including records from federal and state courts and local clerks' offices around the country, shows widespread forgery, perjury, obstruction of justice, and illegal foreclosures on the homes of thousands of active-duty military personnel.

Also, photographs that were texted to one of Jackie’s friends showing the alleged attacker were actually pictures depicting one of Jackie’s high school classmates in Northern Virginia. That man, now a student at a university in another state, confirmed to The Post that the photographs were of him and said he barely knew Jackie and hadn’t been to Charlottesville for many years.

Sumbitch! Angelides is going off the reservation in this interview. He even admits that they made criminal referrals on Rubin, O'Neal and Prince. Time to sharpen up that old guillotine!
You can see where I'm going with this. Did Bob Rubin and others suggest to Obama independently that he put Holder and Breuer at Justice, knowing that their insertion/presence would guarantee no criminal punishment for guilty executives. You can imagine the client huddles at Covington & Burling in the fall of 2008 as it became apparent Obama would defeat McCain. I can see Rubin calling Breuer/Holder and saying we need you bastards at Justice under Obama so none of us (your clients) go to prison. Then Rubin and Summers go to work on Obama suggesting Eric Holder for Attorney General. Obama agrees and BAMN! everyone is now immediately safe from any future prosecution.
All of this achieved behind the scenes by Bob Rubin.
Imo, the order--no prosecutions--came from the top. Its implementation may have been left to Obama's discretion, with input from the usual suspects.
The question is who and what "the top" is. The follow-up to "Veneer" will drill into this and other unanswered questions.
Where are you teaching/researching/studying these days?
Were Obama and Holder friends before the 2009 appointment?

I can only imagine the unrecorded discussion that took place given Summers' temerity in documenting that abortion. The only material difference between Summers and Rubin is 150 lbs.
Holder's been in the game for a very long time, having concocted the collateral consequences Trojan horse in the 1990s as Deputy AG under Bill Clinton. Likewise Geithner, who started at Treasury under Bush 1 and was with Kissinger before that.
The odds that Obama wasn't acquainted with these gentlemen before 2009 are zero. I think the association you're trying to recall might be Blankfein's defense attorney, who happens to be Holder's best friend.

George Mason Law School has responded to the ASSOL acronym controversy.

On the other hand, Ron Suskind claimed that it was Geithner and Summers who prevented Holder from prosecuting.
http://dailybail.com/home/dylan-ratigan-with-author-ron-suskind-tim-geithner-ran-the-w.html ("Geithner and Summers defied orders from Obama and took over White House policy, instructing Attorney General Eric Holder to back off Wall Street criminal prosecutions")
I find that latter claim totally ridiculous in its implication that Holder required any instruction whatsoever.
HA HA HA. Jesus! So you were right that 2000 administrators overlooked the fact that they were about to be employed at ASSOL. Unreal.

Richard M. Bowen, former chief underwriter for Citigroup’s (nyse:C) consumer-lending group, said he warned his superiors of concerns that some types of loans in securities didn’t conform with representations and warranties in 2006 and 2007.
“In mid-2006, I discovered that over 60 percent of these mortgages purchased and sold were defective,” Bowen testified on April 7 before the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission created by Congress. “Defective mortgages increased during 2007 to over 80 percent of production.”
It looks like fraud, it walks like fraud, but Robert Rubin would say:
"It's not fraud. Now hurry, someone stop Brooksley Born."
You and I have forgotten more shit about this stuff than 99% of the population will ever know.
