'We Referred Bob Rubin To DOJ For Prosecution'

OUTSTANDING 2-MINUTE CLIP

"There were 40 billion in criminal fines but apparently no criminals."

Wednesday on CNBC, Phil Angelides, former chairman of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, discusses the commission's referral to Eric Holder and Lanny Breuer, recommending the investigation and prosecution of Bob Rubin, Chuck Prince and Stanley O'Neal (among others), which, as you know because you read Daily Bail, was completely ignored by the Covington & Burling Department of Justice.

(Reuters) - U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Lanny Breuer, head of the Justice Department's criminal division, were partners for years at a Washington law firm that represented a Who's Who of big banks and other companies at the center of alleged foreclosure fraud, a Reuters inquiry shows.

The firm, Covington & Burling, is one of Washington's biggest white shoe law firms. Law professors and other federal ethics experts said that federal conflict of interest rules required Holder and Breuer to recuse themselves from any Justice Department decisions relating to law firm clients they personally had done work for.

Reuters reported in December that under Holder and Breuer, the Justice Department hasn't brought any criminal cases against big banks or other companies involved in mortgage servicing, even though copious evidence has surfaced of apparent criminal violations in foreclosure cases.

The evidence, including records from federal and state courts and local clerks' offices around the country, shows widespread forgery, perjury, obstruction of justice, and illegal foreclosures on the homes of thousands of active-duty military personnel.

UPDATE -- Judge rules UVA 'Jackie' in Rolling Stone hoax rape article must give deposition

Relying on text messages between Jackie and one of her closest friends at the time, Eramo’s lawyers argue that Jackie not only fabricated the account of her alleged sexual assault but also created the false persona of her perpetrator, whom she repeatedly identified to her friend as Haven Monahan. Charlottesville police said that no one by that name ever attended U-Va., and extensive efforts to find the person were not successful.

Also, photographs that were texted to one of Jackie’s friends showing the alleged attacker were actually pictures depicting one of Jackie’s high school classmates in Northern Virginia. That man, now a student at a university in another state, confirmed to The Post that the photographs were of him and said he barely knew Jackie and hadn’t been to Charlottesville for many years.

You did nice work and nailed it on that case DB. Just got a little something up with more to come later on this week.

Hey John, saw it, thanks. By chance if anyone knows how to get in touch with sagebrush or skinflint, give them a shout and tell them to get back here. They are needed. I got the word out to Dr. Pitchfork this afternoon I think. We'll see if the email gets through.

Already have. Use whatever graphics or photo you want with my submission. Maybe a stock chart would be appropriate. LOL! On headline was an HTML issue but someday this old dog will finally get it right. Will text you.

I was JUST talking about the FCIC to someone the other day and how they made criminal referrals that went exactly nowhere with the DOJ. I even mentioned Robert Rubin by name.

Sumbitch! Angelides is going off the reservation in this interview. He even admits that they made criminal referrals on Rubin, O'Neal and Prince. Time to sharpen up that old guillotine!

I was surprised at the admission, and I immediately wondered if those guys, then why not Blankfein, Ken Lewis, Dick Fuld and the rest. Then I rewatched and Angelides said there were other names.

So my question becomes, when Obama appointed Holder at the beginning of his presidency in 2009, was it already baked in that no one would be punished. Based on Cheyenne's work we know that Holder and Breuer never even investigated. Their role was to protect their former clients from prison.

You can see where I'm going with this. Did Bob Rubin and others suggest to Obama independently that he put Holder and Breuer at Justice, knowing that their insertion/presence would guarantee no criminal punishment for guilty executives. You can imagine the client huddles at Covington & Burling in the fall of 2008 as it became apparent Obama would defeat McCain. I can see Rubin calling Breuer/Holder and saying we need you bastards at Justice under Obama so none of us (your clients) go to prison. Then Rubin and Summers go to work on Obama suggesting Eric Holder for Attorney General. Obama agrees and BAMN! everyone is now immediately safe from any future prosecution.

All of this achieved behind the scenes by Bob Rubin.

"Did Bob Rubin and others suggest to Obama independently that he put Holder and Breuer at Justice, knowing that thdir insertion/presence would guarantee no criminal punishment for guilty executives..?"

Imo, the order--no prosecutions--came from the top. Its implementation may have been left to Obama's discretion, with input from the usual suspects.

The question is who and what "the top" is. The follow-up to "Veneer" will drill into this and other unanswered questions.

Dr. Pitchfork in the house! I guess my email got thru.

Where are you teaching/researching/studying these days?

I'm pretty sure I remember that Rubin was an advisor to Obama in the fall of 2008 before he won. So that would give Rubin the opportunity to convince Obama to offer the job to Holder.

Were Obama and Holder friends before the 2009 appointment?

Larry Summers sent President-elect Obama his marching orders for the economy on 12/15/08.

http://delong.typepad.com/20091215-obama-economic-policy-memo.pdf

I can only imagine the unrecorded discussion that took place given Summers' temerity in documenting that abortion. The only material difference between Summers and Rubin is 150 lbs.

Holder's been in the game for a very long time, having concocted the collateral consequences Trojan horse in the 1990s as Deputy AG under Bill Clinton. Likewise Geithner, who started at Treasury under Bush 1 and was with Kissinger before that.

The odds that Obama wasn't acquainted with these gentlemen before 2009 are zero. I think the association you're trying to recall might be Blankfein's defense attorney, who happens to be Holder's best friend.

I'm not trying to put this on Obama. I'm wondering whether Summers/Rubin hatched a plot to install Holder at DOJ in order to protect Wall Street.

That's the most reasonable conclusion imo, particularly since Rubin knew he'd benefit. Remember, Richard Bowen blew the whistle on Rubin, complete with emails showing that Rubin KNEW Citi was selling "investments" that were trash according to Ciit's own abysmal standards.

On the other hand, Ron Suskind claimed that it was Geithner and Summers who prevented Holder from prosecuting.

http://dailybail.com/home/dylan-ratigan-with-author-ron-suskind-tim-geithner-ran-the-w.html ("Geithner and Summers defied orders from Obama and took over White House policy, instructing Attorney General Eric Holder to back off Wall Street criminal prosecutions")

I find that latter claim totally ridiculous in its implication that Holder required any instruction whatsoever.

HA HA HA. Jesus! So you were right that 2000 administrators overlooked the fact that they were about to be employed at ASSOL. Unreal.

80% Of Citigroup Mortgages Were Defective

http://dailybail.com/home/80-of-citigroup-mortgages-were-defective.html

Richard M. Bowen, former chief underwriter for Citigroup’s (nyse:C) consumer-lending group, said he warned his superiors of concerns that some types of loans in securities didn’t conform with representations and warranties in 2006 and 2007.

“In mid-2006, I discovered that over 60 percent of these mortgages purchased and sold were defective,” Bowen testified on April 7 before the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission created by Congress. “Defective mortgages increased during 2007 to over 80 percent of production.”

It looks like fraud, it walks like fraud, but Robert Rubin would say:

"It's not fraud. Now hurry, someone stop Brooksley Born."
