I've been predicting that Ireland would be the real ground zero for bank bailout rage. They bailed out all the banks and bondholders, instituted a crash program of fiscal austerity, and the people are catching on and getting violent. The Irish papers even have editorials about whacking the bondholders. (O si sic omnes!) But I never thought that bank bailout rage in Ireland would come to involve Semtex and detonating cord.
In one of the most bizarre bank bailout developments to date, the Real IRA has put British bankers on notice, threatening bombing attacks on banks and bankers, including London's financial district. Given the sorry state of the economy on both sides of the border, the Real IRA may have found what turns out to be its best recruiting tactic yet: combine nationalist, anti-colonial rhetoric with the population's already seething anger at banks, bankers and the governments that bail them out.

Banks and bankers are now potential targets for the Real IRA, leaders of the dissident republican terror group have warned in an exclusive interview with the Guardian. Despite having only 100 activists they also said that targets in England remained a high priority.
In an attempt to tap into the intense hostility towards the banks on both sides of the Irish border they branded bankers as "criminals" and said: "We have a track record of attacking high-profile economic targets and financial institutions such as the City of London. The role of bankers and the institutions they serve in financing Britain's colonial and capitalist system has not gone unnoticed.
"Let's not forget that the bankers are the next-door neighbours of the politicians. Most people can see the picture: the bankers grease the politicians' palms, the politicians bail out the bankers with public funds, the bankers pay themselves fat bonuses and loan the money back to the public with interest. It's essentially a crime spree that benefits a social elite at the expense of many millions of victims."

Firstly and most Importantly - despite both have the word 'Ireland' in their name, <b>The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are not the same thing.</b> I wish people would understand that. It's really not a hard concept to grasp.

The “assassinating bankers” meme is a dream come true for the elite. Now that the Brits are gone from Basra, and now that Brits and NATO are having to admit what is obvious to everyone else, that the Afghanistan War is un-winnable, (Not that the purpose was ever to win, but that's a subject for another day) and the Brits will probably pull out most of their troops from Afghanistan, they need somewhere to use those troops in order to justify the coming repression - so it looks like N.Ireland is about to get a lot livlier over the next few years (I'm guessing it'll properly kick-off in about 18 Months) - I've been telling people this since about 2005 - but everyone said I was krazy (and they're probably right! :) - "Sure hasn't it been quite up there for ages, sure they're all friends now" they'd say to me. . . . Thanks for reading and for the comments. We are well aware that the Real IRA is a minor splinter group, probably seeking attention with this announcement. But boy have they been getting it! That, of course, was our point in covering this -- that the idea of violence against the bankers is attractive to many people both in Ireland and around the world. Even more so, our point still stands -- the BEST recruiting tactic the "Real" IRA has, in spite of their fringe status, is to go after the bankers, either with rhetoric or with physical force.

It’s good to see that another soul remembers what others consign to the memory hole. I now live in Scotland and the chances of anyone approaching the piece of coast near the Mull of Kintyre at sea level are zero. They tried to blame the pilots but there was a push-back on that also.

Time has come when most ordinary people have so little to lose that they are happy to break the bonds of ‘normal’ bondage. Never mind centuries – this will be settled in the next 10 years.
Making a run on the banks is fruitless. It won't change much. Two of the most powerful, Goldman and Morgan Stanley have no deposits to make a run on in the first place (retail that is). And if you run on C, BAC, JPM, WFC, it will increase their funding costs, but only marginally. The cost of funding between retail deposits and fed fund repos is negligable. Sure, maybe 15-20 b.p. at most. But don't think for a moment that extra funding cost won't be passed through in higher lending margins.
Also, most of the big banks don't rely on retail deposits for a living. There source of funding is much more diverse. Deutsche Bank gets about 15% of it's funding from retail. Citi wouldn't give a **** either.
And it assumes of course that everyone would have to use the Bank of Sealy for their money, instead of placing it with someone (like insurance companies, asset managers), because as soon as they put their "bank run" money back into the system, it will find it's way back into the banks.
You can only starve the beast if you stop borrowing money. You are on the wrong side of the balance sheet!
Retail banking for the big banks changed from holding loans to passing them through already 20 years ago. The majority of assets held by TBTF banks are corporate or moment-in-time securities. The "retail" stuff that is there is largely private banking (and those guys I doubt will run on the bank) or SME type where the small business owner has his mortgage pledged to his business loan, and it would seriously surprise me if that person will severe all ties and destroy his business along with it.
There has also been a massive protest in Stuttgart to stop a redevelopment project. Despite numerous police interventions its still going. I can’t find my original link (PC rebuild) here’s one for a taster.

Here's a solution. May no man have ownership of more than one million dollars of wealth. Either men and women dedicate their lives for the sake of humanity and its evolution thereof, or we let the present system of capitalistic bigotry bring us continued misery. That mantra alone would satisfy 99.9% of the population of this planet and begin to focus our energy and resources on more beneficial and evolutionary works to better mankind. A very small number of people dictate what we know, how we live and determine the future. Completely unacceptable. There are so many exciting opportunities before us. Most people have forgotten the remnant ‘Official’ IRA. They were Marxist and preferred to fight a ‘class struggle’. They had disposed of the majority of IRA weaponry in the 60’s and hence the lack of hardware when the struggle for civil rights went hot in 1969. This group are more commonly known as the Workers Party in Ireland.
