Rand Paul Victory Speech: "We've come to take our government back!" (WATCH)

Video:  Dr. Rand Paul's Victory Speech -- Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Story background including tonight's results  >>

---

  • "We've come to take our government back."
  • "I have a message, a message from the Tea Party, a message that is loud and clear and does not mince words:  We've come to take our government back."
  • "The Tea Party movement is about saving the country from a mountain of debt that is devouring our country and I think could lead to chaos."
  • "The mandate of our victory is huge."

---

Second video (and QUOTES) added from this afternoon)

Video:  Dr. Rand Paul with Bill Plante -- May 18, 2010

Rand Paul joined CBS News Senior White House Correspondent Bill Plante on Tuesday's "Washington Unplugged" and explained this isn't an issue of Republican vs. Democrat but a referendum on the out of control spending from both parties in Washington.

  • "Neither party has controlled the debt very well and neither party has controlled spending.  So I think the Tea Party is about bringing government back to its senses and a lot of the things we talk about are a chastisement to both parties."

He insists, though that the aim of the Tea Party movement isn't to isolate the other parties and that, in fact, he shares some ideals with Democrats.

  • "I think the interesting thing is that a lot of the things the Tea Party talk about are very popular with Democrats and Independents. We talk about term limits.  You poll a balanced budget amendment you find than an enormous amount of Independents and Democrats support term limits and balanced budget."
  • "We can't anticipate anything but victory.  We've worked very hard.  The Tea Party rallies have been enormous all across the state.  I think the Tea Party is ready to flex some muscle and this will be the first example of a state wide election where the Tea Party has a chance to win."

This is a huge platform...Senate seat i mean...for the Libertarian voice...it's just the start...peter schiff in ct. would be a nice 2nd step...
May 18, 2010 at 10:35 PM | Registered CommenterDailyBail
Yep. Thanks to the Democrats own "Five Deferments" Dick ( Blumenthal), Schiff has a good chance. And Rand's victory tonight improves those chances.

MY Rand Paul turn-off moment came at the precise instant he called Evo Morales and Hugo Chavez "petty dictators", even though BOTH rose to office thru a democratic election process that is arguably no better or worse than the U.S.'s

I'm getting fucking tired of these "solutions" that consist in trotting-out YET ANOTHER ignote, backwoods Texan red-neck whose foreign policy decisions will be styled on Clint Eastwood in Pale Rider. PLUS, old Randy has the charisma and personal charm of ASPARAGUS.

RON Paul is still my main man.

DB you are right i think middle America is waking up .When people have jobs and
enough money to get by they let things slide. But now i talk to people everyday
and they have had it with big banks the fed res and big gov,Stevie Wonder
could see how bad the tax payer got raped on the bail outs.

Though defeating the Big Party Candidate is rarely a bad thing, a few things to keep in perspective:

1. Talk is cheap. Assuming Dr. Paul goes on to serve in the Senate, it will much more difficult for him to buck the Party than it is for his father in the House. That's reality. Rand has already walked back stances on torture and other civil liberty no-brainers, although he's opposed the PATRIOT Act from minute one. So he's got that going for him. But nobody deserves a free pass (see also: #2 below); it's not like he's the second coming of Stephen Strasburg or anything.

2. All things equal, hereditary monarchy still sucks. All things equal. (See also: George Bush, Jr.)

3. Bad toupee.

4. Dude, it's Kentucky.

well-done...

@polish

1. Have you ever been to the derby...?...beats the shihite out of Pimlico...

2. Paul didn't inherit anything...he earned through his stance on the bailouts...trey grayson, the hack candidate inherited his spot...

3. If it's a toupee, it's a mistake...

4. Paul will be to Republicans as Sanders is to Democrats...on the fringe, telling the truth...

I've never been to The Derby, only read and heard about it from Reliable Sources. Never been to The 500 either. To my eternal shame.

"he was struck by 32 beer cans...many of them full...

Indeed. Maybe his first order of business ought to be The Take Back the Preakness Act of 2011. For The People!

While I tend to lean civil libertarian in general and hard when it comes to BYOB, I'm pretty staunchly authoritarian when it comes to wasting brewski (hey, we've all got our hang-ups). In this case though, chucking a full can of malt beverage at a jackass running the port-o-potties absolutely does not constitute wasting brewski.

By the way, DB, is that last video you posted a textbook example of Indiana Foreplay?

Also by the way, the biggest loser last night was not Trey Grayson or Arlen Specter. Clearly it was John Wall.

no i don't miss bush...and i never will...you gotta be kidding...and i don't think the maureen dowd piece is meant to be taken seriously...at the bottom it says written by joe biden...

it's satire...

Satire...1 : a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn

Close, it is sarcasm which is often very satirical in nature.

Sarcasm...
2 a : a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual

The individual in this case would be anyone and everyone who doubts Kagan's "authenticity". Obama picked her because she is who she is.

This is what I like to refer to as a "posting double standard". Sarah Palin getting the same press would have been posted by reflex.

Because it might encourage drinking and smoking. It is our lives, and the neo fascists of both parties and their heroic HOA's need to stay the f@ck out of it.
