MADRID (MarketWatch) — With more than 85% of the vote counted Sunday, Pedro Passos Coelho of the center-right Social Democratic Party had 40%, compared with 28% for Prime Minister Jose Socrates of the Socialist Party, in balloting to determine who will lead Portugal through the difficult austerity under an international bailout.

Socrates admitted defeat and said he would resign as Socialist leader, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Social Democrats have indicated they would seek a coalition with the conservative Democratic and Social Center Party to form a majority in Parliament able to quickly pass austerity measures required under the aid plan set by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, according to the Journal report.

Oh look...another politician dangling a tidbit of hope to the eager beavers. Listen to them all you want but change is not likely to come from their arena. Far from it. I guess one could always hope for hope when hopeless. That's what I see when folks get a hard-on about something a windbag politician says. I might have hope when I see the riot police stop beating protestors for peaceful demonstrations and joining the protestors. I might have hope when I see more soldiers and military leaders dropping their guns and turning their backs on genocidal government orders. I might have hope when I see a majority close their bank accounts at JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Goldman, B of A, Wells Fargo and any of the other primary dealers. I might have hope when we tell the megaopolies companies like WalMart to shove it and stop spending our money there. I might have hope when I drive down the road and see TVs lined up for garbage pickup. I might have hope when we bring commerce to a standstill in this country like Greece. Yes...that will literally put the knife in the heart.

But i will not have hope from hearing more lies and unfulfilled promises from the criminal cabal known as Congress, the Judiciary or the Executive.
