I read recently that it was a trick pulled by Paul Manafort that got Trump and Pence together for the first time, probably the only good thing Manafort ever did.

He told trump that the plane needed service and they would have to stay overnight in indianapolis. It was a lie. But it stopped trump from choosing Christie as VP.
