Colleges withhold TRANSCRIPTS of people in default on their student loans--despite the fact that colleges aren't in the business of making loans and aren't owed money by defaulting students. Rather, it's the Department of Education that "encourages" colleges to extract money on behalf of private lenders.

Think what will happen to the hundreds of thousands of kids today that have no chance of paying back their loans. No jobs. Buried in unrepayable debt with compound interest and penalty applied. Debt slaves for life. Just like the IRS on your trail. Hey the army's hiring

I'm with M a debt is a debt and it's someone else's asset. Plus why the hell should I as a taxpayer not only have to pay to put my own kids through school, pay for Pell grants and a host of other crap and still have to end up paying more because some one else thought they were entitled to stiff the taxpayers?

The caption of the graph "Retirement Derailed" is probably misleading. Over ten years ago the average age of a SS recipient was 30 due to survivor benefits. I don't know the current average but I doubt there is little change. How many over 60 still owe student loans and are having their retirement derailed? Few I suggest.

Robertsgt40 got this one right... the rest are very unaware of the student loan lending debacle, literally given approval by removal of predatory lending stop gaps at the legislative level, like Glass-Steagaal, removal of Consumer Protections and bankruptcy protections for student loans, but retained for the money changers like Donald Trump, who has filed multiple times, and the governments dolling out money to colleges without monitoring the corrupt Admission practices that put the college Bureaucrats in with the lenders, and the Corps. Yep! And now.. Citizens United, says these Corps are people! Until we reform the predatory lending system which is confoundedly complicated, and expose the fraud and abuse, ( which is happening thanks to groups like STudent Debt Crisis.com, and Forgivestudentloandebt.com, and Occupy STudent Debt and Colleges and Young Invincibles), and address the corruption that is officiated and stamped acceptable by the US.Congress.. with the lowest approval rating ever ( now you know why).. and ACT responsibly to restructure the Debt Based Banking system, ( Ron Paul was right about the FEDS folks!!), and bring back fair TRADE laws, and Jobs with PRoducts producing Made in America.....we are doomed. Patching up holes in the Dike won't work much longer..........the holes are far too large. You saw what happened in Greece, and other nations. Well... those like Finland that addressed the banking thieves head on will survive.....the rest with Sink like the Titanic... and rich and poor and middle class alike will go down with the ship. Pay attention folks. WE have serious work to do in this Nation. Don't get fooled. Our Congress needs to stop taking pay backs from PACS, and We The People need to hold our elected officials accountable if they don't work for the General Welfare and We The People as a Nation. I am happy to see that Citizens United is being challenged across the nation as is the NDAA.....it's a good start....now let's get this nation back on track. Face the FACTS! Obstructionism is for the benefit of the Corporatocracy, and it is treasonous for Congress to work for special interests and ignore the Constitution. If the public good is being serious obstructed then we have the right to ACT. Tell Congress... solutions include shared sacrifice, and Corporations and banks that are predatory lenders need to be regulated, or get rid of the debt-based monetary system. Other nations that have survived have done it... and we had better wise up. Stop blaming students. They want ot pay back their loans. They can't when their salaries are dropping, there is one job for every five graduates ( latest stats) and the corporations have Exported America ( go check out that link at CNN and see the millions of jobs exported along with hard working Americans money and jobs)... and stop blaming WE The People. STick together folks.. or the Corps and the Oligarchs will keep using your ignorance and lack of awareness to split the working class down the middle, and keep robbing you blind.
