Also, wow. That really brought back some memories.
It's really amazing, isn't it? How far we've come, those of us who care about freedom and the republic. Before the campaign, Ron Paul was just some guy from Texas that Lew Rockwell readers and people from Galveston knew about. Now there's literally hundreds of thousands of people working for freedom, working to end the Fed, demanding sound money, demanding an end to the empire.
We have much to be hopeful about. 5 years ago, I really thought we were going down the dark path to fascism. I don't think that will happen now, in spite of Obama's own authoritarian agenda. There's just too damn many of us.
Being a part of this campaign was so awesome! The Rally for the Republic (btw, I'm a little dot on the right side of the stage, haha), the marches, the canvassing, the people, and of course meeting Ron Paul --- I can't wait for 2012!
"We have much to be hopeful about. " Agreed.
Steve, I think you have your work cut out for you.
Steve, keep it up, we are with you, and more join our ranks everyday.
Ready for the Ron Paul exclusive interview on The Bail. How can we make that happen??
Has anyone tried yet?
BTW, Steve, have you tried getting interviews with any of the financial notables we read about and talk about here every week? I don't know if you're up for it, but it might drive even more traffic here. Maybe Peter Schiff would do something. His brother Andrew, apparently, is in charge of "publicity" for EuroPacific, but also for the campaign, I believe. I could check on that.
Just some ideas. Oh yeah, what about Lew Rockwell interviewing YOU for his Lew Rockwell Show podcasts? You're libertarian enough and "get it" on Keynesian madness, e.g. Something to think about, maybe. Should we pester Lew into giving you a call?
I've had offers from several folks you would recognize to sit for interviews so that's not the problem and our reach is broad enough now that pretty much everyone in the industry knows us...
So here's the plan since you asked...getting Josh, Josh and Zac all to bloomington...that's the first step...we were invited as the 2nd Beta for iSocket after TechCrunch left Federated Media and moved their advertising all to iSocket...google tech crunch and isocket and you can get the full story...i have been meeting with ad networks and discussing options for 4 months (since we became a top 5,000 site in June) but in the end i think we're not going to use an ad network...they all want a 2 year contract and 50% of your revenues...because we have so many email subs and RSS subs (almost 15,000 now...growing at 700 per week) plus about 400k monthly unique visitors (the normal kind who actually come to your site), if we had 3 Ads up we could be making about 60k per month in advertising and we would be giving 30k to an ad network...
So i've decided to build an in-house Ad sales team instead and that is why we are hiring the joshes and zac...once they are here, we close on some office space and immediately start getting interns from IU...i need writing help...immediately...then once i ahve some writiers and content searchers, and story spreaders (mostly will be interns) then i will finally be free to do some things to bring publicity to the site...
We are going to build an in-office TV studio like the Young Turks guy, and do reports and do tons of interviews...i will finally at that point, start accepting media requests...i get them often but when you're answering emails, responding to comments, scouring for content, working on the site re-design, preparing the launch of a related site, and writing stories there is literally no time...i give the site and related issues 16 hours a day 4 days a week, and about 12 hours per day the other 3 days of every week...
As to my appearing on shows...i have invitations from Ratigan, Katie Couric (I know her from UVa...yes i'm younger but i sought her out 20 years ago), David Shuster on MSNBC, and a few CNN people...and teh plan was to do a media junket of sorts this fall...but everything else has taken longer than expected and i can't go do a junket until i ahve people in place to post content while i am away...so we wait...
In the interim, however, i am open to doing an occasional appearance as time allows...the telephone/radio/ podcast route is the best because to do TV i have to go to Indy to a studio and the entire affair would zap 4 hours out of whatever day i did it...which just isn't feasible right now...
So i would be open to appearing on Lew's show assuming i could do it via telephone...but to be honest, arranging it is not on my list of priorities, so i would normally pass...if you are willing to help by contacting Lew, sending them a link to our Quantcast page so they see our substantial reach and traffic, and attempting to arrange a date and time for an appearance, that would be great, and obviously highly appreciated. But otherwise, I'm not likely to take the time to do it myself...
Here's our Quantcast page:

and here's Zero Hedges for a comparison:

Another thing should help...Henry Blodget contacted me last week and asked me start submitting occasional guest posts to Clusterstock...
And one last thing that perhaps some of our readers can help with...we are trying to reach the university audience...teh best way to do this is to get College Newspapers to write about the Bail and what we're trying to accomplish......
Contacting your student newspaper...large universities especially but everything helps...send them an email or call them and tell them to write about us...getting an article in front of 30k students at any of many large universities could help...
As I've said before, we will consider interns (who know the issues and can write)...so anyone interested, please contact me...i'm sure there are a lot of business majors out there who haven't found a job since graduating...
10 years later, i launch this site and now i have VC money coming to me, sending me inquiries about investing, trying to get a stake, etc...which is really, really bizarre if you know anything about how VCs work...they do NOT usually seek out investments...they wait for start-ups to approach them...but i don't want the time hassle and i don't feel like selling a chunk of the company right now...i would rather grow organically...one of our readers is the founding general partner of a top 50 global VC firm and he inquired about a month ago, and as much as we could use their help in many ways, it doesn't make sense from my perspective...
So i have chosen to fund it myself and pay for our growth through AD revenues going forward...so it will take a a bit longer...but in 6 months i am confident we will have a thriving advertiser base, a good staff, a mini studio built and i will be more free to do appearances and work on publicity for the site...
This is my hope at least....
6 months from now means you'll probably be good and ready for the second round of bailouts (or the second round of browbeating FASB into submission). And maybe more fun besides.
Anyhow, this^ is a lot to digest.
RE Lew Rockwell, I'll do my best. As far as I know, almost all his interviews are via phone.
This is my job...i stopped managing private-client money and personal trading, all of it when i launched the site...
I appreciate the effort on behalf of Lew Rockwell...i should also probably try to contact alex jones and max keiser for appearances as well, but i never take the time...i'll eventually get around to it...
Thanks for all your help everyday james...you and the other regulars make the site come alive...as you knwo from BR's website, video clips don't usually get much commentary even on very popular sites...and we post mostly video, so the fact that you and others take the time to watch what i post and make relevant comments helps immeasurably...as i said, you make the site come alive...
I think I can do some work on the university audience side, and maybe the female side...
