David Gregory To Larry Summers: "Would You Like To Be Chairman Of The Federal Reserve?"
I thought I had included the entire Lawrence Summers interview in this story yesterday, but NBC has added 2 more short clips. Listen to Summers' canned response to Gregory's question, as he not-so-deftly avoids any comment on Bernanke's performance.
Summers on seeking the Fed Chairmanship from Meet The Press, August 2.
Are banks meeting their obligations?
Is it just me or does Summers not sound as though he has suffered a stroke in this clip? Has he always repeated himself this way? How he ever became a national collegiate debating champion is beyond my limited understanding.

Anyone with any authority and the respect of millions would be sued and counterattacked viciously by Summers' team.
But hypocrisy, acting (bad acting in this case) and rhetoric are all "sins" even if we don't believe in the gods anymore. They all go together to support our political/economic system that is unfair and getting worse.
Therefore Summers, and it is only fair to add that most people in positions of high power in the United States, are essentially nothing more than liars and hypocrites, on the same level as Mafia bosses. Sure they usually have better manners than Mafia bosses, and wont steal the silverware but there is no moral difference.
Who actually believes what Summers said in this clip? Even his own wife wouldn't believe it. Or should I say ESPECIALLY his own wife wouldn't believe it.
Thank whatever god is holed out in whatever embattled imperium that I am an obscure man and I can reiterate what every one else already knows: the emperor is wearing no clothes.
God save the naked emperor!
Just ask Mark McHugh...he's a huge fan of Summers, right Mark?
A Summers appointment would prove that the job is purely politics. We could do so much better.
The missing ingredient in the Fed's alphabet soup is JUSTICE. I was so glad you posted that link to Robert Khuzami's first 100 days speech. It was the first I heard about GE's fraud charges. I've been looking into Khuzami's record and for the first time in forever I'm hopeful that maybe we've finally found somebody who believes in "seek justice first".
I've been trying to put together a post about Khuzami, because I don't want to see him muzzled. Capitalism without justice is worse than socialism (and I'm no socialist).
Summers is one of those people who refuses to accept the consequences of his actions. In my opinion, he is one of the people who must be brought to justice in order for the American way to survive. The evidence is there, and let's face it, he's never going to turn himself in.
That's why I'm a big fan of yours, DB. Let's put the crooks in jail first and worry about making ourselves rich after justice has been served.

Justice First. What a novel idea. I'm with you on that. I have high hopes for Khuzami.
@Mark
This struck me as well. It's a key issue that often gets lost in the bailout debates and the debates over TBTF -- as if, somehow, the "financial system" was saved (read: Goldman Sachs, et al.), then it's all OK. Well, "I'm pretty fuckin' far from OK." ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWOn1dFmFds ) I want justice so bad I can taste it.
@Daily Bail, et al.
Here's a town hall confrontation clip that hits on the bailouts. Guy with a Question asks the Hon. Tax Eater if he would support a bill that would automatically impeach any Congressman who voted for a BAILOUT.

And here's yet ANOTHER letter from yesterday's Berkshire Eagle (western Mass.) on the topic of revolution:
"Wednesday, Aug. 12
King George III dismissed American colonists as a disorderly rebels and refused to consider their grievances which were repeatedly and respectfully forwarded to his attention. Finally patience ran out and a revolution began.
In France a similar disregard for the common folk led to a revolution. That king lost his head.
Right here in Berkshire County we had Shay's rebellion, brought about by the arrogance of Boston merchants who, is spite of all their egalitarian rhetoric had slight regard for common folk. Shay's rebellion, and similar uprisings elsewhere, caused the first American government to be abolished, and a new constitution written.
Elitist President Obama had better think carefully about characterizing everyone who disagrees with him as rabble.
ED DARTFORD
Stockbridge"
Astroturf or not, the people at the tea parties and at the town hall confrontations are MAD AS HELL -- that part isn't fake.

Another bailout is coming. You can count on it. We'll see about a 2nd American Revolution. It brings tears of joy to my eyes to see these fuckers shamed. PFSC will be recruiting soon.
I hope they play The Price is Right theme song at my polling place. "The price is wrong, bitch!"
'I hope they play The Price is Right theme song at my polling place. "The price is wrong, bitch!" '
I am literally RFOL -- thank you!
Here's the clip for you...the quote is in there from Sandler to Bob Barker..."The Price is Wrong,."
