Nothing came change my opinion of the military. I was in Vietnam. Doing my "job" not knowing why I was there. Then I read Gen. Smedley Buler's "War Is A Racket", Then I realized I'd been pimped. My old man was an artillery captain in Vietnam for USMC in 66-67. He didn't talk about it 'til we got a beach house in 1980. Then he'd sit on the porch and drink Schlitz and talk about how the storms rolling in from the northeast visible 30 clicks away reminded him of Vietnam.

Of all the Vietnam movies that came out of the 1980's, he said "Platoon" was the most realistic in terms of physical landscape, what with two parallel logs on a tree covered hill blocking a tunnel. Emotionally "First Blood" got to him.
