Passengers Thwart Alleged Al Qaeda Attempt To Blow Up Northwest Flight Into Detroit

Video:  (PROFANITY Warning) A new idea for airline safety (baseball bats)

By now you've read the stories.  Made me think of this guy, and his proposed solution for flight safety.  And major props to the passenger who vaulted over 3 rows and took down the bomber, though I would suspect we will hear soon it was an air marshall.  Either way, he's a hero.

An Ohio man who witnessed the attempted destruction of a Northwest Airlines flight to Metro Airport said he's proud of how passengers reacted.

Syed Jafry of Holland, Ohio, who had flown from the United Arab Emirates, said after emerging from the airport that people ran out of their seats to tackle the man.

Jafry was sitting in the 16th row -- three rows behind the passenger -- when he heard "a pop and saw some smoke and fire." Then, he said, “a young man behind me jumped on him.”

Jafry said there was a little bit of commotion for about 10 to 15 minutes. The incident occurred during the plane's descent, he said.

He said the way passengers responded made him proud to be an American.

The federally trained flight attendants took control all right - after their "screaming" at the perp apparently was ineffective until a non-federally trained passenger leapt over several seats and the aisle and got the job done.

Looks like we need to send some of our troops to England and teach them how to profile.

Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, an engineering student at University College London from Nigeria who wanted to go to Michigan to attend an islamic religious ceremony.

Um, let me evaluate, name - red flag, age - red flag, student - red flag, Nigeria - red flag, Michigan - red flag, religion - red flag, purpose of travel - red flag, and guilt by association - big fat red flag. Maybe we should outsource our security to China.

What's Barry doing, oh right, he is too busy bankrupting the country and partying. Hmmm, do you feel safer.

This "sit still, nothing on your lap, no getting up 1 hr from landing" latest TSA genius would rule out the guy that got up and jumped on the terrorist on flight 253—in fact it probably would have prevented the PA “lets roll gang” from diverting that flight back in 9/11/01! Bombers will now just set their bombs out once the pilot gives you the nod to turn on your electronics and be able to get up and use the bathroom after the flight has taken off!

The homeland security babe (not really) saying the system worked is now back tracking—and this is the same gov’t that wants to run our healthcare????? I think not!

I worked for a company that made atmoshpheric and flight simulators. They sold a sixteen seat chamber that was designed to simulate a window blowing out at 40,000 feet to Saudi Arabia. I reported it to the FBI, but the unit shipped anyway. So if terrorists sieze control of a plane by blowing a window out first, you'll be glad to know that they bought our exports.

Our safety will always be secondary to maximizing profits, that is after all what they have insurance for. Homeland insecurity brings up a interesting issue, and I remember after 9-11 hearing that the hijackers while getting flight training asked if they could get a discount if they did not learn how to land. I guess it is all about taking the money, and not about refusing goods or services to suspicious requestors, as this would surely adversely affect someone’s bonus.

Did you know that airport screeners are a entry level job starting as low as minimum wage, and the only skills required are to be 18, and speak English.

http://www.jobmonkey.com/airline/html/security_screener.html

Prior to 9-11, screeners did not even have to be American. I was scheduled to fly home from Boston on 9-11 to see my family for a week, after the events of that day transpired, all air traffic was grounded. That left people with tickets having to call the airport for days ( I think it was 7 or 8 days before I could fly), to see if we would be able to fly. When I was finally told I could fly, I went to the airport that morning to find myself being the target of the increased security measures. For some reason 6’ 2” 250 pound blonde guys with no luggage ( as I have plenty of clothes at home), round trip ticket, frequent flyer, and specific government clearances, seemed to fit the bill for what they were looking for.

As I was pulled to the side, and given the what for with a tweaked up wand in front of everyone, removing my boots, steel shank, shirt, denim with metal snaps, belt, large buckle, and drop my jeans, rivets (in front of everyone I might add), I notice a group of Arabs being taken around security to the plane. When I asked the screener how come they were not being subjected to what I was, she said they could not do that, as it would be racial profiling.

My response to that was, well exactly how many 6’ 2” blonde guys have you had flying into buildings lately, everyone in line started chuckling. As fate would have it, when I got on the plane, one of them was sitting right in front of me. As the plane began moving, the man in front of me began chanting, or praying in his native tongue, and waiving his arms in the air.

Every person on that plane turned and looked, with an expression of oh no, not again. I said to the gentleman next to me that if this guy did anything remotely stupid that I would twist the mans head off, loud enough for several around me to hear, including the man in front of me.

Thankfully, I guess he was merely praying for a safe flight, for once the plane got air bourne he settled down for the rest of the flight.

Moral of the story is, you can implement all the changes you want, it is still in the hands of the least skilled, cheapest employees money can buy to find the bad egg, gotta protect those bonuses at the top, not keep people safe by hiring trained and skilled “intelligence experts”, which would cost more, to really screen the suspicious passengers.

Nothing will change, hell, they were stupid enough to put their procedures on the web.

Hmmmmm, no, that just shows you the differences in our cultures. That is one of the ways we can spot these terrorists, they make silly cultural mistakes.

"Hmmmmm, you must get in a lot of car accidents with that attitude."

not since I was a teenager. I was refering to business liabilities vs. bonus building.

"Hmmmmm, no, that just shows you the differences in our cultures. That is one of the ways we can spot these terrorists, they make silly cultural mistakes."

No, that shows how people are willing to provide goods and services for a fee unquestionably, and ignoring the obvious for the money.

"Hmmmmmm, maybe the cute lady with no education was hitting on you. With such a boring job,"

She was sporting a finer mustache than I had, though I have never been known to be bashful.

"Hmmmmmm, isn't that something the libs hate but do every chance they get to appeal to their base."

I have no clue what this means. You will have to enlighten me as to Saul and your leftist meanings of things.

"Hmmmmmm, it is a low skill job with proper supervision. I do think that it requires a lot of training. Gomp, get ready for healthcare run by the same retards."

Protecting human life “is a low skill job“, you are a airline executive aren't you. I hope you never have a medical emergency and get a low skill EMT named Bubba, who decides you need the hieney lick maneuver . By all means, tell us what airline you work for so none of us will risk our lives building your bonus.

The screeners receive 12 hours training to "protect us". Have you ever seen a attentive minimum wage earner? Remember, that kind of highly skilled supervision has brought us things like this and 9-11.

“These are entry-level jobs, requiring only a high school diploma. All training is provided on the job, although most new hires will have to take a 12-hour instructional class. Applicants should also be at least 18 years of age and be able to communicate in English. Good customer skills are a plus. Advancement to management positions is possible.”

Dec 30, 2009 at 10:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterGobiasBestFriend
Some people watch it all day long their entire life and still are clueless. Part of sneaking things or yourself through things is about learning to defeat the technology that is out there. Those who work to defeat systems are always smarter than those who operate them. No technology is undefeatable, though some may fail as part of the learning curve.

Our drones have already been compromised, if you have been watching the news. That hack was extremely sophisticated, and you can bet it takes smarter people to run the drones than it does to be a screener.Put your faith solely in technology, and you will always get disapointed, remember, you are talking to a electrical engineer.

Many 18 year olds could be set in front of that technology all day, but would be doing nothing but daydreaming about what they are going to do after work.

Technology is nice, and can offer advantages, but it does not win wars, physical control of the soil does.

Or that your "low skill job with proper supervision" screeners did not fail, and the attack was launched from a secret Al-Qaeda airbase in America with their own planes, as you infer. Or that the brainpower improving Republican leadership was in charge.

I am not a Bush (Dubya or the Senior) fan but I am sure one or more of the 97 brothers of Osama has met with Clinton and Bush and Obama. Osama's father f***ed anything that moved in Saudi Arabia. Hefty parking permit price increase aims to limit the growing number of vehicles in Copenhagen

If you’re a vehicle owner and just moved to Copenhagen, you’d better hurry up and get your new resident parking permit.

Currently, the permit costs 195 kroner. But on Friday that price will balloon to 690 kroner – an increase of more than 250 percent.

Earlier this year a majority of city politicians decided Copenhagen has too many vehicles. To solve the problem, residents will have to pay more to park their cars.

Nazism= National Socialism, Communism= the quick and bloody path to Socialism. I don not have any friends that support either. Both have their roots in left-wing socialist ideology.

I cannot see supporting one over the other since they are both to going the same dance. And we all know how you clutch the party ticket to your bosom.

"Gomp, the communists kill more of their own people."

That is why it is the quick and bloody path, But National Socialism spilled their fair share in their ambitions to achieve the Socialist dream. All the flavors of Socialists takeovers kill plenty of citizens, blood letting is a requirement to reach the tenants.

Karl Marx, said it was necessary to kill a large segment of the population in order to attain the basic objective of Communism.

Marx states in the Manifesto of the Communist Party:

You must, therefore, confess that by "individual" you mean no other person than the bourgeois, than the middle-class owner of property. This person must indeed, be swept out of the way, and made impossible. (Published by Progress Publishers, Moscow, 1973 edition, page 66)

"If you study Marx' Communist Manifesto you will find that in essence Marx said the proletarian revolution would establish the socialist dictatorship of the proletariat. To achieve the socialist dictatorship of the proletariat, three things would have to be accomplished: (1) The elimination of all right to private property; (2) The dissolution of the family unit; and (3) Destruction of what Marx referred to as the "opiate" of the people, religion.

Under Communism the educated, middle class, religious, landowner, "dangerous" to society, must be eliminated.

I fit in all those categories so I am not a fan of your choices to follow National Socialist supporters over other versions of Socialism. I say do not support any of the forms, they all lead to the same fate, no matter what flavor you choose.

“Obama is a fraud, a Marxist, and he surrounds himself with criminals.”

They all surround themselves with criminals, politics tends to attract the most unsavory amongst us.

“That makes me nervous for what dangers lurk down the road.”

No fear of the abyss, both parties got us here, and it took many years of them all working together, and neither will get us out.

I think you might find these links interesting, it shows the long approach they have all been working towards.

Hey Gomp, way off-topic but....

When I read the gangstalkingworld piece, communist goal #2 reminded me of my old man:

" U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war."

He worked 40 years as an engineer for the Navy and one of the things he always used to say was "the guy willing to stand closest to the edge, runs the world" meaning the country more willing to blow everything to smithereens gets all the advantages in negotiations. It took me a while to get comfortable with that idea, but looking back, I know he was right. And while I'm no fan of Reaganomics, he was a master of policy against the communists.

Here's my favorite cold war Navy story (from the history channel, not Dad). Russian subs were always noisier than ours and our detection methods supperior. So the Navy selected a time which they would locate every Russian sub in the Atlantic fleet and hit them all with a single ping at precisely the same moment. Russian subs are incommunicado when at sea, but record events, like pings. So they knew that it would take them months to collect that data and realize the implications.....If the US decided on a first strike, they we're toast, guaranteed. I only heard that story in the last five years, but if you ask me, something like that had to weigh on their minds a lot more than "star wars".

Moral of the story: Make the other guy blink......

sorry: "they were toast" (2010 resolution - reduce typos)

I've never been able to find a written account of that simple, but brilliant op. I know you're a fountain for this kind of info. So, if you can point me in a direction, I'd be grateful....
Jan 3, 2010 at 1:18 AM | Unregistered Commentermark mchugh
Until the 1980s, Russian attack submarines were designed around the concept of Anti-Surface Warfare so they tended to be fast and noisy. They achieved this by reducing the shielding around their reactors, thereby making their subs lighter. That is why their submariners only had a two year commitment, they were usually cooked by then…Due to well-placed spies Russia learned that NATO naval forces could track them very easily and redesigned their submarines to be quieter "Hunter Killers". This is another example of “and not about refusing goods or services to suspicious requestors, as this would surely adversely affect someone’s bonus.” Americans selling out our secrets have always been paid well. The ability not to locate our subs was a key component of the MAD scenario, if they could not locate and destroy our “boomers”, they knew the could not stop a retaliatory strike.

Boris Yeltsin became President of Russia by the Russian Republic's Supreme Soviet in 1990. At which point he resigned from
the Communist party and declared Russia's independence. In 1991 Yeltsin became the first President of the Russian
Republic elected by popular vote. The Soviet Union had been falling apart for many years, for many reasons.

Reagan only had two roles in the collapse, which merely sped the fall up, because it was unavoidable.

Role one was to train and equip the Taliban in how to fight a modern Army, provide and train them to use Stinger missiles at a cost to us of 1 billion a year, but it cost the Soviets 8 billion annually in destroyed equipment.

Role two was to artificially keep gas prices low to starve the Soviets of much needed capital.

Reagan received more credit than he deserved, as they were going to fail anyway, and we are still dealing with the aftereffects of role one.

Watch China, within 20 years their Naval capabilities will surpass us, built with U.S. Fiat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Soviet_Union_%281985%E2%80%931991%29

I heard that story years ago as well, when was working in the programs, I looked briefly and did not see anything.

Nikko, I do not over think anything, I operate a tight and efficient OODA loop. Didn’t look at the links, or did you immediately reject them because they did not come from the Flat World Society?

What Terrorism? What ALQAEDA? What Taliban?.............US Bamboozled Gernatiom

The real Home Frown Financial ALQAEDA Terrorism?

During 2009 we have seen the continued collapse of American industry amid wave after wave of layoffs. The corrupt corporate media cartel likes to trot out a group of FED sponsored shills who call themselves "professors" to call this a "jobless recovery" although it's difficult to imagine a recovery where American industry has collapsed and is now owned by the government. US cities both large and small have been decimated by the loss of the US manufacturing base. Detroit now resembles a third world country with a 50% unemployment rate. Ransacked, foreclosed houses go for a dollar apparently because no one who has a choice is willing to own property or live there. The US has an officially stated unemployment rate of ten percent and a real unemployment rate of over 20 percent. Wall Street may have recovered due to a direct injection of capital from the future labor of the people, but there has been no action taken whatsoever to improve the situation of the average citizen as the disconnect between the ruling Oligarchs and Wall Street, the real economy and the lives of ordinary Americans continues to widen. The people's bailout money, which represents the future labor of Americans, went directly into the pockets of the people who created the crisis in the first place because they are in the enviable position of being "too big to fail". Interestingly, or sadly, the same people and institutions responsible for and who profited from the catastrophe are still in charge and have handed even more power and control to themselves. Although there has been talk in Washington of "too big to fail" being undesirable, the result of the post collapse policies have resulted in ever fewer, ever larger players with more power and control and instead of being "too big to fail" now wield so much money and power that they demonstrate wholesale ownership of the entire US political body.
