Climategate: The Worst Scientific Scandal Of Our Generation
Our hopelessly compromised scientific establishment cannot be allowed to get away with the Climategate whitewash, says Christopher Booker.
The reason why even the Guardian's George Monbiot has expressed total shock and dismay at the picture revealed by the documents is that their authors are not just any old bunch of academics. Their importance cannot be overestimated, What we are looking at here is the small group of scientists who have for years been more influential in driving the worldwide alarm over global warming than any others, not least through the role they play at the heart of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Dr Jones is also a key part of the closely knit group of American and British scientists responsible for promoting that picture of world temperatures conveyed by Michael Mann's "hockey stick" graph which 10 years ago turned climate history on its head by showing that, after 1,000 years of decline, global temperatures have recently shot up to their highest level in recorded history.
Given star billing by the IPCC, not least for the way it appeared to eliminate the long-accepted Mediaeval Warm Period when temperatures were higher they are today, the graph became the central icon of the entire man-made global warming movement.
The third shocking revelation of these documents is the ruthless way in which these academics have been determined to silence any expert questioning of the findings they have arrived at by such dubious methods – not just by refusing to disclose their basic data but by discrediting and freezing out any scientific journal which dares to publish their critics' work. It seems they are prepared to stop at nothing to stifle scientific debate in this way, not least by ensuring that no dissenting research should find its way into the pages of IPCC reports.
Back in 2006, when the eminent US statistician Professor Edward Wegman produced an expert report for the US Congress vindicating Steve McIntyre's demolition of the "hockey stick", he excoriated the way in which this same "tightly knit group" of academics seemed only too keen to collaborate with each other and to "peer review" each other's papers in order to dominate the findings of those IPCC reports on which much of the future of the US and world economy may hang. In light of the latest revelations, it now seems even more evident that these men have been failing to uphold those principles which lie at the heart of genuine scientific enquiry and debate. Already one respected US climate scientist, Dr Eduardo Zorita, has called for Dr Mann and Dr Jones to be barred from any further participation in the IPCC. Even our own George Monbiot, horrified at finding how he has been betrayed by the supposed experts he has been revering and citing for so long, has called for Dr Jones to step down as head of the CRU.

Climate Change Data Dumped
In a statement on its website, the CRU said: “We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.”
The CRU is the world’s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures. Climate change sceptics have long been keen to examine exactly how its data were compiled. That is now impossible.
Roger Pielke, professor of environmental studies at Colorado University, discovered data had been lost when he asked for original records. “The CRU is basically saying, ‘Trust us’. So much for settling questions and resolving debates with science,” he said.
Jones was not in charge of the CRU when the data were thrown away in the 1980s, a time when climate change was seen as a less pressing issue. The lost material was used to build the databases that have been his life’s work, showing how the world has warmed by 0.8C over the past 157 years.
He and his colleagues say this temperature rise is “unequivocally” linked to greenhouse gas emissions generated by humans. Their findings are one of the main pieces of evidence used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which says global warming is a threat to humanity.

On point commentary from reader James H:
It's interesting that they plan on providing the "full data" as part of their so-called U-turn, because according to the article above, the raw temperature data was destroyed long ago and replaced with "enhanced" and "homogenised" versions of the old readings.
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as it were, because almost all of their data -- except over the last 150 years -- is derivative. That is, it depends on tree rings, ice cores, and the like. But these sorts of data have to be interpreted according to various assumptions about a multitude of different factors and conditions. Are the margins of error for each of these assumptions, which I would assume are quite significant, carried through all the calculations, including the results they get once these data have been plugged into their models? If so, the margin of error in the final result would likely overwhelm the very small absolute change in temperature that we see over the last 100 years or so (assuming the warming trend is correct and intact).
It's a house of cards, really. Not unlike the kinds of models developed by cosmologists. Depending on small changes to initial assumptions or small changes in the mathematical models, you can get wildly different results for what happened after the Big Bang, what the "shape" of the universe is now, and whether it will continue to expand forever or collapse again into a singularity. There are simply too many unknowns to ever "prove" much of anything. Fortunately, cosmologists and astrophysicists have not agitated for a UN program to fight Universal Expansion or whatever they might call it.

Countries all over the world has already dumped tons of money into R&D to invent ways to pick the world's pockets with this religion.
Most of the media skipped right over this story or had polite op ed pieces.

The story is still building...give it time...
You know, the more Obama throws himself behind bailouts, "stimulus," forced participation in insurance boondoggles, and now using taxpayer dollars to support half-baked climate boondoggles, it will be better in the end. Peter Schiff once said that his only hope for America was that Obama would be "so bad" that it would pave the way for a real freedom movement that would get our fiscal house in order. I have to admit, Obama's been pretty good at being a big-time failure. Of course, had McCain won, it would only have paved the way for Obama (or Hilary) in 2012. Barring a miracle or two, we will have yet another trillion-dollar + budget deficit next year. I say Obama is toast.

Except for Greece, whose credit protection trades +72 basis points wider than it did a month ago, market response to the Dubai default is surprisingly muted, as the table below from Markit Partners makes clear:
It seems fanciful that the rest of Europe would allow Greece to default, but that is beside the point. The sharpest widening in credit default swap pricing occurred not in the soverign world, but among Japanese corporates:

A fantastic article written by Christopher Brooker of the London Telegraph exposing the climate change fraud rocketed to the very top of a Google News search for “global warming,” only to disappear hours later.
“What is going on at Google? I only ask because last night when I typed “Global Warming” into Google News the top item was Christopher Booker’s superb analysis of the Climategate scandal,” writes James Delingpole.
“It’s still the most-read article of the Telegraph’s entire online operation – 430 comments and counting – yet mysteriously when you try the same search now it doesn’t even feature. Instead, the top-featured item is a blogger pushing Al Gore’s AGW agenda. Perhaps there’s nothing sinister in this. Perhaps some Google-savvy reader can enlighten me.”
Another blogger noted how other versions of the article appeared, but the original had been “disappeared,” despite the fact that other London Telegraph articles showed up as the top ranked result when entering their headline.
“That is using the search string: “Climate change: this is the worst scientific scandal of our generation” – which is the full headline of the piece. It shows up where it has been quoted in full by other sites, but of the Booker column there is no sign,” writes Richard North.
In addition, searches for previous Christopher Brooker articles show up as top links – it’s only this particular article that has seemingly been targeted for censorship.
The same de-listing of the article is evident on other major search engine websites like Bing and Yahoo.

Who's to blame for Climategate?
The publication of damning emails about climate change could literally change the world. Gordon Rayner reports.

Gordon-brown: Today we see yet again a Prime Minster putting pressure on Pakistan when he himself doesn't even have the ability to plan his own Afghanistan campaign.
Is Brown trying to extend his authority in order to butter up his own image prior to the next election or does he have some hidden agenda to make us all think that Pakistan has lost the plot and Britain may go in with the US and take matters into their own hands? So what's new?

Al Gore confronted on ClimateGate in Chicago
We Are Change Chicago
Monday, Nov 30th, 2009
CHICAGO IL – On Tuesday, November 24th 2009, We Are Change Chicago attended a book signing with former vice president Al Gore, at the Borders Bookstore on 150 N. State Street.
The previous Thursday, news had begun to circulate that hacked documents and communications from the University of East Anglia’s Hadley Climate Research Unit (CRU) had been published to the internet. The information revealed how top scientists conspired to falsify data in the face of declining global temperatures in order to prop up the premise that man-made factors are driving climate change. Please review ClimateGate for Dummies.
To ensure the public that the media and Al Gore are aware of the facts that prove global warming to be a hoax, patriots from WAC Chicago marched to the book signing. Scattered throughout a crowd of a few hundred were members of WAC Chicago ready to ask Al Gore what he thought about ‘ClimateGate.’
First up was Saad Ali. As he approached Gore, he peacefully and respectably asked, “Sir, can you comment on the emails and documents that were hacked [ClimateGate] that reveal… that the research was a fraud and that it was all manipulated?” Gore, with an evil smirk, claimed that “he never read them.” By the look on his face and his stutter, it became quite clear that Gore was extremely uncomfortable with the question, so he quickly glared towards his security. The agents grabbed and assaulted Saad, escorting him away from Gore for merely asking a simple question. The press took notice and started filming and snapping pictures of what was going on. One of which appeared the next day in the Chicago Sun Times.

The White House on Monday made exceptionally clear that it wants nothing to do with the furor over documents that global warming skeptics say prove the phenomenon is not a threat.
Despite the incident, which rocked international headlines last week, climate science is sound, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs stressed this afternoon, and the White House nonetheless believes "climate change is happening."
DailyBail. & Ken & Okay, and James, alright, and Gomp (sorry SNK)..That is why we need to make Obama the target not a bunch of numbers or tree rings. Hard to dispute that climate change is happening, hmmmm, where have I heard that change word before. Change, yeah, that's the change we need. Change...to cause to be different. Hmmm, I suppose Obama is different. Promise kept.

Sorry, I only read People magazine so I don't know anything about polls.
The President, we are told, benefited greatly from the gender gap in his last two elections, and according to a PEOPLE poll of 507 respondents—53 percent female—women still judge him less harshly than men. Fifty-nine percent of women polled think Hillary should stand by Bill, at least until the end of his term (52 percent of the men agree), and just 41 percent of women hold him solely responsible for his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, as opposed to 57 percent of the men.
Oh crap.

More women die of cancer in Denmark than those of any other European country, reports science website
Women in Denmark die more frequently of cancer than those in any other European country, according to a report on videnskab.dk.
Italian researchers have found that the number of men dying from cancer has fallen in Denmark but more women are succumbing to the fatal disease. They discovered that 141 of every 100,000 women die of cancer each year nationwide – the highest rate in Europe.
Lung cancer is the biggest killer, responsible for 90 percent of all deaths from the disease.
Dr. Hans Henrik Storm of the Danish Cancer Association said that Danish women have historically smoked as much as men, although the figure has fallen in recent years.
‘Also, women in Denmark tend to join the job market earlier than those in other countries, so they’re more susceptible to cancer forms related to the workplace,’ Storm told public broadcaster DR.
‘Moreover, Danish women have children later, which also increases the risk of breast cancer.’

Dec. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Australia’s Senate rejected the government’s climate-change bill a second time, creating a possible election trigger and leaving Prime Minister Kevin Rudd empty-handed when he travels to Copenhagen this month.
Senators voted 41 to 33 against the law, which included plans for a carbon trading system similar to one used in Europe. The failure concluded days of debate in the upper house and follows a revolt in the opposition Liberal Party that saw a new leader take charge vowing to scuttle the Rudd plan.
The legislation’s second failure -- the Senate originally rejected the bill in August -- gives Rudd, 52, the power to dissolve parliament and call early elections. Rudd would face off against new Liberal leader Tony Abbott, who says the prime minister’s plan amounts to a A$120 billion ($112 billion) tax on Australians without doing much to mitigate climate change.

Ripples created by the disclosure of global warming files now being called "ClimateGate" continue to spread, with congressional attention growing and the head of a prominent climate change group stepping aside.

The whistleblower deep in the basement of one of the ugly, modern tower-blocks of the dismal, windswept University of East Anglia could scarcely have timed it better.
In less than three weeks, the world’s governing class – its classe politique – would meet in Copenhagen, Denmark, to discuss a treaty to inflict an unelected and tyrannical global government on us, with vast and unprecedented powers to control all once-free world markets and to tax and regulate the world’s wealthier nations for its own enrichment: in short, to bring freedom, democracy, and prosperity to an instant end worldwide, at the stroke of a pen, on the pretext of addressing what is now known to be the non-problem of manmade “global warming”.
