Mets Selling 20%-25% Minority Stake

http://www.hedgefund.net/publicnews/default.aspx?story=12154

[snip]

The New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon, who allegedly profited under Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, said recently he was selling a minority stake in the franchise, according to the New York Post.

In a possible attempt to offset a settlement with Irving Picard, the trustee for the bankruptcy of Madoff’s business, Wilpon is searching for about $200 million for a 20% to 25% stake in the team.

Picard has alleged that the Mets owner made $48 million off of investments with Madoff, implying Wilpon may have at the very least turned a blind eye to the shady investment schemes.

comment: this is a really good story........
