WATCH: Navy Laser Destroys Drone

The U.S. Navy shows off its new toy in the Persian Gulf.

For $1 per shot versus millions on a missile.

Drone-Destroying Laser Captured on U.S. Navy Video

April 9 (Bloomberg) -- On April 8, the U.S. Navy released this video of the Laser Weapon Systems, installed aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey, which is currently in the Persian Gulf.   The system claims to destroy airborne targets at a mere $1 per shot, versus the millions spent on a traditional missile.

Navy Proud.  Navy Strong.  [sarc]

As a taxpayer I applaud the renowned cost-consciousness of our Navy as we strive to bring Democracy to the world, by whatever means necessary.  We will be expecting a refund on those missiles we're not going to need anymore.  Make the check payable to Joe Biden at the United Nations to expedite the funding process.

Something tells me it costs a bit more than $1 dollar to build that laser. Funny no discussion on that.

Good thing the drone flys perfectly straight for the 20 seconds it takes for the laser to bring it down....Also no discussion on the effective range (not far) or ability to use in weather (nope). Much ado about nothing but wasting money on crappy tech.

This laser seems more likely to be used against citizenry, maybe protesting a little too loudly during the dear over lords' soap programs. As a military tool - completely useless.

Well, looks like tesla was right, and the Tesla Death Ray was in fact a functional idea... way to go in stealing something else from him.
