“It’s never appropriate to try to make oneself seem more important or smarter by demeaning others. I knew better. I know better. I’m embarrassed, and I’m sorry,” Mr. Gruber, an economics professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told the House oversight committee this morning.
“Are you stupid?” Issa asked.”
“I don’t think so, no,” Gruber, slouched over the witness table, replied.
“Does MIT employ stupid people?”
“Not to my knowledge.”

"Congressman Michael Turner (R-Ohio) took his turn and was instantly apoplectic over the fact that Gruber would not, simply because he was asked, provide the state payment data the committee was requesting. Apparently, Turner believes that just because a Congressional committee asks, the witness is legally bound to respond, whether it violates his rights, his contracts or anything else."
Ungar is appalled that a mere congressional representative of people in Ohio would dare to even think they're entitled to answers in a hearing where the witness swore under penalty of perjury that he would tell the truth and the whole truth.
According to Ungar, the "whole truth" excludes the contracts of the witness.
Actually Mike Turner is right and Rick "Kowtow to my Masters" Ungar is wrong. The only grounds for refusing to testify is the 5th amendment right against self-incrimination, which Gruber never asserted. Ungar didn't cite any authority to support his implication that Gruber's contracts--which were with public (governmental) entities, not that that matters--because there isn't any.
Had Ungar researched the issue for 30 seconds--as opposed to taking dictation from his masters and slavishly publishing it without question--he would've learned the following:
"The privilege does not allow a witness to refuse to answer a question because the response may expose the witness to civil liability, social disgrace, loss of status, or loss of private employment. A witness may not claim the privilege on the grounds that an answer or document may incriminate a third party: it may be declared only by the witness for the witness."

If Gruber really believed that his documents included some truly sensitive data requiring confidentiality (say, trade secrets, though it's nearly impossible to imagine what data Gruber used for public purposes would have qualified), he could have asked for permission to file his documents under seal with the committee, or for an in camera inspection.
Gruber did neither. He refused to testify, in direct violation of his testimonial oath. Of course Kowtowing Rich Ungar doesn't mention that, because his masters think the rules don't apply to them.
Ungar is a bootlicker and a moron.
