Ron Paul 2012 New Hampshire Speech: On The Fed, Illegal Wars, Deficits, And The Drug War

I love Ron Paul, he is the only politician I've ever sent money to. However, he has NO idea what he is talking about when it comes to the drug war. The drug war is a success. The war on illegal immigration is the failure. Tens of thousands of drug dealers are arrested, sent to Mexico and are allowed back in the United States within HOURS of their release to Mexico. Mexican nationals flood through our border everyday, are chased by police in high speed pursuits, crash and flee the scene... the punishment, three months in jail.

The media refuses to show you what is happening in Mexico and the United States. They are savages: kidnappings, beheadings, defacings, torture, burning alive. Tolerance for drugs in Mexico has led to complete civil chaos. If Ron thinks turning a blind eye to the savages is a good idea he is clueless. The drug dealers have amassed a fortune and are now contributing to politician campaigns in the United States.

We as a nation are allowing the drug dealers to poison our children. We let the bankers steal our currency, we let the oil cartels steal our money, we let George Bush open the borders and arrest our INS agents, don't let Mexican drug dealers win.

Ask an addict if drugs should be legalized. You'll get the answer.

In the summer of 2000, I asked a group of 100 people at a conference of spiritually committed people which of them would push a red button if it would immediately stop all narcotics trafficking in their neighborhood, city, state, and country. Out of 100 people, 99 said they would not push such a red button. When surveyed, they said they did not want their mutual funds to go down if the U.S. financial system suddenly stopped attracting an estimated $500 billion – $1 trillion a year in global money laundering. They did not want their government checks jeopardized or their taxes raised because of resulting problems financing the federal government deficit.

The logic of an addict would be flawed from the start. The war on drugs is a failure for many reasons. Primarily because the status of "illegal" does nothing to stop those that will use from doing so. They just get caught then become a part of the prison system tax burden. Secondly, it creates artificial value for something that should be void of it. The drug lords can buy out politicians because the policies create scarcity any anyone a simple understanding of economics comprehended how scarcity of anything can generate huge revenue.
