REPORT: DOJ Lawyers Investigating Hillary Clinton Donate $75K To Her Campaign

Hillary Clinton has received nearly $75,000 in political contributions from employees at the Department of Justice, the agency that will decide whether or not to act if the FBI recommends charges against Clinton or her aides following its investigation into her private email server.

Justice Department employees have given Clinton far more money than her rivals, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump, according to a review of federal campaign contributions. Clinton collected $73,437 from 228 individuals who listed the 'Department of Justice' as their employer. Twelve of the 228 contributions were for $2,700, the maximum individual amount allowed by law.

Trump, by comparison, has received little help from Justice Department employees, recording just two contributions for a total of $381. Sanders has taken 51 donations totaling $8,900 from Justice Department employees.

David Bossie, president of the watchdog group Citizens United, told the Washington Free Beacon he is not surprised by the donations.

"How can Democrat political appointees fairly investigate someone who is about to become their nominee for president? Today, I renew my call that Attorney General Lynch must appoint an independent special counsel to determine if Hillary Clinton or her agents broke the law and compromised our national security. This investigation needs to be conducted free of political influence once and for all."

Howard Krongard, who was inspector general for the State Department from 2005 to 2008, predicted earlier this year that even if the FBI referred Clinton’s case to the Justice Department for prosecution it would “never get to an indictment.”

Krongard said the case would have to go through “four loyal Democratic women,” including Lynch, top White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, and Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell, who heads the department’s criminal division.

In addition to the contributions, critics note that Lynch was appointed to a previous job as U.S. attorney by Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton. They also point to comments Obama made last year that they say appear to prejudge the outcome of the inquiry.

“How can political appointees make decisions about an investigation into the Democrat front-runner for president of the United States?” said Bossie on Monday. “If this does not meet the criteria for the appointment of a special counsel, what does?”

CLINTONS HAVE TIES TO LYNCH LAW FIRM

Lynch was a litigation partner for eight years at a major Washington law firm that served the Clintons. Lynch was with the Washington-headquartered international law firm Hogan & Hartson LLP from March 2002 through April 2010.

Hogan & Hartson’s New York-based partner Howard Topaz was the tax lawyer who filed income tax returns for Bill and Hillary Clinton beginning in 2004.

KEN STARR GETTING FIRED

The Baylor board of regents is expected to remove six-year school president and chancellor Ken Starr by the end of the month," according to Chip Brown, a reporter at Scout's Texas Longhorns site.

Starr, football coach Art Briles and athletic director Ian McCaw have faced ongoing criticism for the school's sexual assault scandal, with the latter two named in a former student's lawsuit and credible voices pondering the possible end of Briles' tenure. Roughly a dozen former BU football players have been accused of violence against women over the last eight years, though this problem goes beyond football and even beyond Baylor itself.

The school president is better known as the 1990s independent counsel who investigated Bill Clinton's consensual (per Monica Lewinsky) activities. The irony of Starr's university having a sexual assault investigation scandal has been noted. (The school president now seemingly sympathizes with Clinton.) Starr's relative public silence throughout the nearly year-long story has frustrated plenty of people.
