Rand Paul Fires Back At John McCain: "I'd Rather Be A Hobbit Than A Troll" (VIDEO)

Video - Rand Paul with Judge Napolitano - July 28, 2011

From Politico

The “Lord of the Rings” metaphors crept into the debt-limit fight on Thursday, as tea-party heroes fired back at Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) who mocked members of the conservative grassroots movement as “tea-party hobbits.”

“I’d rather be a hobbit than a troll,” freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said on a conference call when asked by POLITICO about McCain’s remarks. “I think in reading the books, the hobbits were the heroes. They overcame great obstacles, and I think I’d rather be a hobbit than a troll.”

Added fellow freshman Sen. Mike Lee, who co-founded the chamber’s tea party caucus with Paul and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.): “It’s stunning to me that some people have resorted to name calling rather than simply addressing the issue.”

McCain, his party’s presidential nominee in 2008, took to the Senate floor a day earlier, blasting tea-party lawmakers for opposing House Speaker John Boehner’s plan to raise the debt ceiling because it doesn’t require passage of a balanced budget amendment.

The five-term senator is a strong supporter of such an amendment but he dismissed their stance as “foolish,” “deceiving and “bizarro,” saying it is unrealistic the proposed amendment could win the 67 votes needed to clear the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Quoting from a Wall Street Journal editorial, McCain said “tea-party hobbits” were mistaken to think that if Republicans refuse to raise the debt ceiling and the government defaults on its loans, President Barack Obama would get the blame.

“This is the kind of crack political thinking that turned [tea-party heroes] Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell into GOP Senate nominees,” McCain said, citing the editorial.

Angle shot back in a series of rapid-fire tweets Wednesday night, then hit McCain in a statement Thursday noting that the senator picked tea-party darling Sarah Palin as his 2008 running mate and ran to the right last year as he fended off a tough primary challenge.

John McCain is an intellectual and physical dwarf. He must feel inadequate next to Ron Paul. Napoleon complex and all that...

John McCain is an old corrupt politician. He is a war monger like every other President we have had. I don't remember a period of time that we have not been at war with one country or another. Perhaps the people should vote on issues such as going to war and raising the debt ceiling. The people should vote on issue that are as important as these.

How Ironic. Ron Paul's kid, the Tea Party Prick, is about to throw me under the bus by bankrupting the government. Is he seriously refusing to raise taxes on the Lazy Rich? How about cutting Fat Pensioners? Double Dippers? Military Madmen? Means Test Social Security? Tarrif Slave Made products from China et al? Demand reciprocity from ALL trading partners?

OK Rand. We'll just cut Social Security, Food Stamps, and Medicaid. F**k the poor. Just like yo' Daddy.

profnasty has a valid point here, as far as who gets cut & who doesn't. One needs to keep in mind that the Congress as well as the Executive branches and probably the Judicial as well have been bought & paid for. They all talk the talk with a wink & a nod, but at this point in time, it's all staged "KABUKI". As for returning to small Government, ask the ones advocating such as to where that point of small Government is? Keep in mind that the population will have to be reduced also to fit into that "Small Government". Are you willing to sacrifice yourself & your family to achieve it? Take the blinders off and view the reality here. Food for thought, if you're still able to think individually on your own.

I'm pretty sure that Rand Paul would get the large majority of his savings from axing the military, and all the overseas bases, and of course from ending all the wars.

More Talk of Sharon Angle? Well there might be a reason for that? This is still an issue currently under scrutiny yet everyone here in NV is afraid to speak of it. But I know this to be a fact. I just don't know if it was illegal? A few links to check out. Consider this when looking at them. The Corps that did this cry poor daily and cut back and can't afford this or that etc etc. However they were able to pay out major money to send their employee's to vote.

Simply put, McCain is a Moe-Ron. I mean really, really stupid. Not his fault. Just reality. Remember when he admitted during the '08 campaign that he does not know much about economics (or probably anything)? Have you ever heard him make a useful, intelligent point regarding the economy?

Dana Carvey had it right. The crypt keeper should fade to equilibrium...

To profnasty and Norman:

To profnasty and Norman,
The reality is the government is falling apart in front of us. We already sacrifice ourselves and family by no means of our own. We have an illusion of free will. The government tells us what is legal and what is not. Representation is no longer there.
To profnasty: You defend the welfare state. The question is why do you? Are you on social security? Food Stamps? Perhaps you are lazy? Unwilling to work for a better life? Why should the tax payers feed and spend their hard earned money on the people who abuse the system of welfare? I defend those who are truly disabled and cannot work, they are the ones who deserve a handout.
To Norman: You say we can’t go back to small Government. I think your wrong. Let me rephrase that, I know your wrong. If government would follow the constitution we would not be the trouble we are in now. The problem is they don’t. Only a few follow the ideas of small government, those are the sword and shield that we must support to change the system.
I would like anyone to prove I am wrong. Give me some good examples and defend what you say.

to smither: You don't know what you're talking about. We can't go back to when we had small Government due to the population in this country. You have either been drinking the kool-aid, or believe the political spin that is being thrown about. Let me ask you this, just how old are you? What would you do with the Military/Industrial/Financial complex that is ruining this country today? Are you that naive that you believe destroying the very social fabric in this country is good? Have you served your country as a member of the Military in combat? Do you know/understand the treatment the Veterans are receiving from their Government, who I might add want to cut their benefits also. Do you consider them lazy too? Are your parents eligible for/collecting Social Security, or perhaps your Grandparents? Do you consider them to be "lazy"? Do you think they should go out and get a job & work until they die? Are you supporting them or any other member of your family that needs help? Or perhaps you're one of those who sit at a computer terminal and repeat the spin you read, instead of doing your own due diligence on the subjects you comment and rag others on? Or maybe you're one of those trolls or one of the "Weird Science" teenagers who wore their jockey shorts over their head dreaming? Either way, people are still free to give their opinion, at least for the moment, but then, I take it you're a Paul supporter, which is your prerogative, but that doesn't make them the only game in town. If you can't cut through the spin, then you're deluding yourself and part of the problem.

"Very Well Said"....................The truth will hurt some !
Aug 2, 2011 at 5:47 PM | Unregistered Commenter"Texas Dar"
Hi Norman,

I see that I touched a sensitive issue with you. I find myself honored to educate you. First of all let me point out that you ask a lot of questions but don’t have any answers. Secondly I do like kool-aid. Third the social fabric of this country is already unraveling due to the current system of government.

You are naïve to think that we can sustain a welfare country. We spend trillions of dollar here at home and abroad. Where does this money come from you ask? Well it comes from the Federal Reserve. Now this brings us to the core cause of the problem, which is the printing of valueless currency. If you think we can print valueless money and expect everything to be fine your naive. One day we will all see the cost of easy money. The Germans in the 1920’s know exactly what I speak of. The Feds devalue the currency, which in results lowers the purchasing power of the dollar(Inflation occurs). The ability to create money paves the road for unending wars and irresponsible government spending. What I am getting at is the current way of life were living is changing. We are at a time where all the issues from social security, healthcare, education budgets, military spending, deficits, ect, it all won’t matter. Were losing our liberty at a rapid rate. For an example if our government decides to make it legal to put you in a labor camp or fight in a war. Do you think your master will care if your son or daughter goes to school? Has a good meal to eat? Healthcare? No they won’t. You will be lucky if they don’t hold their lives as a way of control. An oppressive government such as my example can happen and has happened. My point is if we don’t change things and support good politicians and unite the people under one banner for freedom and real representation we will end up losing our liberty and life.

I actually am creating a database of government ideas and policies from everyday Americans. Anyone that wants to help me with my little project is welcome. I will be submitting these ideas and policies to the Senate and Congress myself. With any luck they will see what the people really desire.

To smither, I notice that you didn't answer any of the questions I asked you. I also notice that you preach the same doctrine the The Paul's do. You are badly mistaken in your assumptions about both the country & myself. As I asked but you avoided, what have you done for your country besides repeating others rhetoric? I'll ask you again: have you served your country in the Military in combat? Are you a Veteran? Do you think everyone who doesn't believe or follow what you think is misguided? As far as touching a sensitive issue with me, again, you are the naive one. One last question: how old are you?

Texas Dar, are you saying that you are smither? I don't believe it. As far as the beliefs are concerned, I respect your in the Paul's corner, and I really haven't got one, as I'm too damn old to take sides, except that I will be there when the man shouts "All ready on the firing line, watch your targets", so you could say we are on the same side. As to whether you served or not, that doesn't make a man, but it does so when the man preachs tearing down the system without saying what he's going to put in its place. You should know full well that when they say "Trust Us" that's when you better duck and head for cover. Perhaps :The Check's In The Mail" might be a better phrase. T.D., You are a Real Man in my eyes, you're funny, you sound down to earth, you have a cheering section, D.B. vouches for you as to being real, so I would be a fool to believe otherwise.

All that said, are you saying that you are the one who wrote using the "smither" handle, or that perhaps you were dictating? Or is that individual someone you know? Sorry for the "Q"'s, but I believe in talking to who ever writes in back & forth, otherwise, it becomes a stupid guessing game, which causes mistrust. It's no way to run any cohesive unit.

@Josie

McCain graduated 5th from the bottom of his class at Annapolis. He is one of the least intelligent Senators ever to grace Washington. On the economy he knows less than my Labrador Retriever, Lucy. She at least understands supply and demand, as it relates to tennis balls.

Now T.D., I said we have to be careful what we say in print. As for "O", I've said this many times already, he's the first and will be the last. He's also a mix. Not to be confused with my being a racist, though I could call him a "breed" and be correct. As for the Fema camps, let me ask you this, do you believe in the boogieman & the tooth fairy? If you do, I have a great deal on a bridge that I'll let you have cheap. T.D., these are fairy tails for those that drink the koolaid. There are plenty more where those came from. But, I don't want to debate philosophy or who's on top, perhaps it's just a futile effort we share in saying the same thing. We long for the values of an era long gone, just can't agree on how to get there, but the goal is the same. With, I shall say good night, rest well, for tomorrow is the 1st day of the rest of your life.

To Norman;

I actually answered most of your questions. I answered the social fabric of the country and the military industrial complex. Your other questions were just retarded, so I didn't bother. Your missing the point here. This isn't about military service, healthcare, education, ect... Everything does revolve around the central banks such as the Federal Reserve. Since the creation of them the government has been able to get a steady supply of money to spend on social programs, pork projects, and war. They no longer had to worry about where to find funds. They would just print more cash. Almost 100 years we have had a depression and many recessions. We have had costly wars that some were unjust. We have also seen a period of inflation and a lower standard of living. If I am wrong let me know.

Do you find it strange that we have a global depression in the earlier part of the 20th century and another global recession now? No warning signs? Anyways back to work.
