Obama uses 'autopen' to sign Patriot Act in Washington... while he's 3,700 miles away in bed in a French hotel
Behold the auto-signature. We doubt he's even read the bill.

Thanks for the input. I reached out to Judge Boyko (he of the famous Deutsche Bank dismissal for lack of a note and thus standing), but he only agreed to a written interview. While generous, he must realize that the best stuff in an interview setting (I've taken countless video-recorded depositions) comes on the fly. You just have to listen and remember.
I'd still like to get a judge to talk about this stuff. It's straight-up fraud across the board, from mortgage origination, to securitization, to foreclosure. While Karl was great on this stuff, he lacks the office (though he has written a book, called Leverage, to be published by Wiley & Sons 12/11) to deliver the conclusive blow.
I think it's important to get a jurist--a legitimate Article III judge--to speak up. We'll see...

I did see this on BuckleyFiring LIne once, when I was a kid, and I was stunned: Noam starts talking about how the Republican-Democrat divide was entirely fake. When I was 8, I thought the dude was insane. Turns out, of course, he's right.

In 1913 the Federal Reserve act was signed into law by Wilson. The House, on December 22, 1913, agreed to the conference report on the Federal Reserve Act bill by a vote of 298 yeas to 60 nays, with 76 not voting. The Senate, on December 23, 1913, agreed to it by a vote of 43 yeas to 25 nays with 27 not voting. The record shows that there were no Democrats voting "nay" in the Senate and only two in the House. This act was the culmination of the Bankers Manifesto of 1892’s manipulations of the economy to bring about the newest version of a central bank.
Hoover was POTUS when the orchestrated Depression began in 1929, and was completely vexed with what to do. By 1932, the Great Depression had spread across the globe. In the U.S., unemployment had reached 24.9%, a drought persisted in the agricultural heartland, businesses and families defaulted on record numbers of loans, and more than 5,000 banks had failed. Tens-of-thousands of Americans who found themselves homeless and began congregating in the numerous “Hoovervilles” that had begun to appear across the country. The name “Hooverville” was coined by their residents as a sign of their disappointment and frustration with the perceived lack of assistance from the federal government. In response, Hoover and the Congress approved the Federal Home Loan Bank Act, to spur new home construction, and reduce foreclosures. The plan seemed to work, as foreclosures dropped, but it was seen as too little, too late.
Prior to the orchestration of the Great Depression, Hoover's first Treasury Secretary, Andrew Mellon, proposed and saw enacted, numerous tax cuts, which cut the top income tax rate from 73% to 24% (under Presidents Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge). When combined with the sharp decline in incomes during the early depression, the result was a serious deficit in the federal budget. Congress, desperate to increase federal revenue, enacted the Revenue Act of 1932, which was the largest peacetime tax increase in history. The Act increased taxes across the board, so that top earners were taxed at 63% on their net income. The 1932 Act also increased the tax on the net income of corporations from 12% to 13.75%.
Congress passed the Gold Reserve Act on 30 January 1934 (Roosevelt was POTUS); the measure nationalized all gold by ordering the Federal Reserve banks to turn over their supply to the U.S. Treasury. In return the banks received gold certificates to be used as reserves against deposits and Federal Reserve notes. The act also authorized the president to devalue the gold dollar so that it would have no more than 60 percent of its existing weight. Under this authority the president, on 31 January 1934, fixed the value of the gold dollar at 59.06 cents.
In 1933, when Roosevelt became president, the United States had the largest gold reserves of any nation in the world. He announced on March 8, 1933, a few days after taking office, that the gold standard was safe. But three days later, he issued an executive order forbidding gold payments by banks; Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau, Jr., announced on March 11 that “the provision is aimed at those who continue to retain quantities of gold and thereby hinder the Government’s plans for a restoration of public confidence.”
Fear of devaluation spurred a panic, which Roosevelt invoked to justify seizing people’s gold. On April 5, 1933, Roosevelt commanded all citizens to surrender their gold to the government. No citizen was permitted to own more than $100 in gold coins, except for rare coins with special value for collectors. Morgenthau announced on the same day that “gold held in private hoards serves no useful purpose under present circumstances.” Gold was thus turned into the same type of contraband as Prohibition-banned rum.
The last silver certificates were printed under Johnson.
Nixon was the POTUS when the last traces of silver were removed from U.S. coins.
You are correct about the machinations of Reagan’s second term, as the effects of Alzheimer’s were already taking its toll and the increased need for handling was evident.
