Story is developing. Here's what is known at the moment. Attack was inspired by Islamic State. Omar Mateen called 911 at some point either before the attack or during the hostage siege, and declared his allegiance to ISIS. Mateen was a registered Democrat. He is the U.S. born son of Afghan refugees. He was killed by law enforcement in a siege at 5 am. He had an assault rifle, handgun and wore another device that some nightclub patrons described as a suicide vest. He was investigated by the FBI briefly on three different occasions in 2013 and 2014.

While I would agree with the spin argument regarding gun laws and such, and indeed, there are on progressive sites a plethora of fear mongering types and tyrant types who are waxing poetic about the abolishment of the second amendment, which has gotten me tossed for my commentary. With that being said, with over a billion Muslims covering the planet, there are, I believe, moderates. Indeed, like Chirstians who don't go to Church as our religion requires, there are those who wish to live peaceful lives. The concern is which sects are violent and what they are up to. To categorize one billion people into one camp is not the way to approach this issue. At least I don't think so.

Trump needs to postpone his big speech on clinton corruption. A terrorist attacks and kills 50 Americans and the anti-gun crowd immediately goes into Chicken Little overdrive and wants to disarm all the law abiding American Citizens who own similar weapons. There are going to be more and more of these attacks in the future and banning weapons people could use to defend themselves seems rather stupid to me. California banned assault type weapons in 2000 and while Americans residing in California can't by such a weapon for their own defense, terrorists and criminals can buy one there today on the black market for $400.00. The ban has worked so well in California that a terrorist can buy an illegal AK-47 for $300.00 to $400.00 less the an American California citizen would have to pay for a legal one, if he could even buy one which he can't. I think ISIS is just getting started and more of Obama's refugees are going to assume their real ISIS identities and start killing people. When one terrorist can take out 50 people this terrible massacre shows how incapable of defending themselves most Americans really are.

I have seen that as well, especially on Twitter. I think the other shots people heard (no one said they saw 2 shooters just that they heard shots coming from 2 different directions) was the gunfire from the security guard who engaged Omar. However, what is interesting from that Palm Beach Post article is this paragraph:

“In a moment of desperation we were all crawling on the floor trying to find a place to exit. I looked to my right and I could see people going through some curtains. We were digging through the curtains and found a door.’’ But he said the door was blocked by a man. He wasn’t sure if it was a club security person or an accomplice to the gunmen.

I've not seen any reports on a two shooter situation, unlike the theater in Colorado where there were several references to a two shooter ordeal.
The other thing that I would like to point out, is that in the moment, there has to be a decision made in regards how to handle a situation such as this. It seems counterintuitive, but, if at least a few people just bull rushed this idiot the carnage would not have been as bad. After 911, the whole scenario with a crazy person hijacking a plane, just doesn't work anymore. People have been duct taped to their seats, tied to their seats and indeed all manner of restraints have been used. Dunno, it just seems something has to be done.

This is another situation where "if'" one, two or three of the party goers had carry/canceled permits he might have been stopped
a little sooner. What happened to the security people who should be ready for actually anything. What was wrong with the city of Orlando building inspectors? I've never been to that building, but from what was said there was only one door for entrance or exit.

I have been following it all, yet again human stupidity and apologists abound.

I saw an interview of his ex wife talking about how abusive he was, yet he still allegedly "legally" bought guns. Domestic violence is a disqualifier for legally buying guns. also they say he had been looked into by the FBI a couple times recently. Looks like the government dropping the ball again in the favor of extremism.

Remember they also said the San Bernadino shooters were also said to have legally bought the guns used, but I knew that was wrong immediately because the gun had high cap. mags which are illegal in Cali as well as a firearm having the ability to use them. Of course it later came out to be a straw purchase from most likely outside of California.
