Nuclear Engineer Arnie Gundersen Demonstrates How Fukushima's Fuel Rods Melted And Shattered

Interesting clip.  Gundersen has been all over the MSM for the last month.  After the introduction, you might want to skip ahead to the 3-minute mark.

You can ask questions directly of Arnie at the following link:

Japan is considering moving the capital from Tokyo that disaster is much worse then people have been led to believe btw there are areas where the radiation is 4 times higher then Chernobyl and just think that's the same company partnered with GE that obama urged the congress to give billions to build nuke plants in the U.S.!

Independent scientists from Kyoto and Hiroshima Universities have found radiation levels 30km beyond the Japan evacuation zone that are 4 times higher than Chernobyl higher than official government reported numbers. The measurements refute the official radiation levels released by the Government of Japan.

Radiation levels 400 times normal are expected to remain in communities beyond the 30km evacuation zone.

As the author of this article regarding that plant in Texas said "Heaven help us because Obama won't".

Once a closed-circuit cooling system has been developed and successfully set up, there will be no other option but to encase the reactors in concrete This will end up being a lot trickier to bury than Chernobyl.

The Chernobyl nuclear disaster was the result of a single explosion. That means that in contrast to Japan the reactors did not have to be cooled and could be encased in concrete soon after the explosion.

Arnie is a great speaker on the issue, but obviously new to science demonstrations. It might have been more persuasive and instructive had he:

1. Told us what to expect and why
2. Explained the physics and chemistry of what was about to happen and then, what had happened.

What was the water for? Why did the O2 cause brittleness? What was proved by the experiment?
All this must be explained.
Without clear explanation, all you have is pretty sparks.

@ Dave, when extremely hot metal comes in contact with water (such as welding wet metal), a condition called hydrogen embrittlement occurs if the heat is high enough to cause thermochemical dissociation (seperate the hydrogen from the oxygen in the H2O). The Hydrogen exposure will crack the metal.
