While we can't be 100% certain, it appears pretty clearly that he shoots himself.   You can see in the clip from 2:53- 2:55 where he lifts his right hand and appears to shoot himself in the right side of the neck.  Then you see the heat from his blood come out on the left side of his head, as his head falls to the left.

The FBI was last night hunting a 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” linked to the Boston marathon bomb brothers.  Police believe Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were specially trained to carry out the devastating attack.

More than 1,000 FBI operatives were last night working to track down the cell and arrested a man and two women 60 miles from Boston in the hours before Dzhokhar’s dramatic capture after a bloody shootout on Friday.

A source close to the investigation said: “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.

“They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.”

A specialist team of CIA and FBI interrogators was yesterday flown to a Boston hospital to grill wounded Dzhokhar, 19, about the secret group. The University of Massachusetts student was caught on Friday after hiding out in a boat parked in a garden in locked down Watertown the day after a gun battle with police left his 26-year-old brother and a rookie cop dead.

Dzhokhar is said to have run his brother over as he escaped in a stolen car while Tamerlan lay handcuffed on the ground. They were carrying six bombs with them at the time, three of which ­exploded, as well as a handgun and rifle. The devices were thought to be pipe bombs.

Neighbours of the family said older brother Tamerlan had recently become obsessed with Islam.  He mysteriously left the US in January last year to spend six months in Russia. Yesterday senior FBI counter-terrorism official Kevin Brock said: “It’s a key thread for investigators.”

It also emerged the Bureau interviewed Tamerlan two years ago, at the request of the Russian government, but could not establish that he had ties to terrorist radicals.

This was despite his worrying Russian-language YouTube page featuring links to extremist Islamic sites and others since taken down by YouTube.

One link showed an hour-long speech by an Islamic teacher called Shaykh Feiz Mohammed, while other videos are labled “Terrorists” and “Islam”.

The radical cleric, with links to extremist British Muslims, encouraged his followers to become martyrs for Islam. He said: “Teach them this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid.”

Government officials have said the brothers were not under surveillance as possible militants.  And an FBI statement said the matter was closed because interviews with Tamerlan and family members “did not find any terrorism activity, domestic or foreign."

As the agency was accused of "dropping the ball" over the case, NBC News reported that Tamerlan Tsarnaev had been seen making six visits to a known Islamic militant in a mosque in the Russian republic of Dagestan.

The visits came during a six month trip that Tamerlan made to the city of Makhachkala to see his family, NBC said. According to a local police official, a case file on Tsarnaev was then handed over to the FBI along with a request for further information. However, the FBI never replied.

The agency has already admitted that it interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011 after Russia raised concerns that he was becoming a follower of radical Islam, but found nothing "derogatory" against him and did not pursue the case further.

Pre 911 our intelligence agencies were a disparate group of organizations who were territorial in the gathering and sharing of information, which by any measure was A LOT. The info would come into NSA and because it was so much and there was only a finite group of people to work on it that there were times when stuff slipped through the cracks. After 911 there was created Homeland Security which was to be the umbrella organization that pulled all these groups into a cohesive operation. Now, everytime you purchase anything from feminine hygiene products to bulk food supplies and swipe a card to do so, your information gets routed to NSA or some water cooled super computer that stores that information forever. With the reports of the FBI letting this guy slip through the system and the reasonable belief that there was some foreknowledge of a bomb threat in Boston, what with dogs, police snipers and the national guard. one could make an arguement that though the government did not help plan and execute this act of destruction, they allowed it to happen. What with the BILLIONS that the US taxpayer have paid to put this apparatus together to have it fail like this is just a really bad rate of return on the money spent. These folks should be summarily fired without pay and benefits and no pension and they should start from the top down and replace them with soneone who is interested in actually working for a living. In regards the private securtiy detail. I guess they needed them, but for what purpose? There were only a couple of them really and if things got really out of hand then what. I know the SEALS are a formidable bunch, but if things spun out of control what would have been their purpose. Security for who. The potus was not there. Maybe some other dignitaries?

Regarding the question you asked about private security.

I've seen a photo showing 7 or 8 dudes from The Craft standing around their SUV, and I'm sure there were more we didn't spot. As I wrote a few days ago, they were either hired by the Marathon organizers or the City of Boston for extra security. It's also possible they operate on a consulting/retainer basis for DHS who sends them to all the big sporting events.

Here's what's pissing me off. The older brother beat the shit out of his girlfriend, and should have been deported but wasn't. I've posted the story everywhere. So once again, DHS failed to deport a guy when they should have.

I think we will find in 2 weeks that all the media discussion will be focused on how the FBI and DHS fucked up, and in a big way. I'm looking forward to it.

But it looks pretty clear that he puts something up to the side of his neck and then his head immediately leans back and his body goes sort of limp. I'm not positive but I don't think you would see a sharp snap of the head in a thermal image because he was already lying down.

When you add that to the new story from ABC reporting that he told police he shot himself in the boat, and I think it's pretty certain. Others can judge for themselves.

One can only hope that whoever is found to be negligent in this atrocity has the same happen to them. To the left of his head just above where his left ear would be, you can see a hot spot sort of in a round splatter pattern. This only shows up after he is seen raising his right hand to the left side of his neck. As his head start to fall towards the left, that is when you will see the small somewhat round heat spot. It appears that he is retrieving the gun from his left side or the top of his chest, cuz you can see his right arm move slightly left and then back to the right. You know when your a mom, you have to watch everything very carefully. My heart is torn with all of this, since I have a 19 year old myself.

That should be the story on the Craft Para-Military Teams we should be reading about -- How they were there on site, and failed miserably. Instead we are getting insane conspiracy stories about Craft planting the bombs. Certain websites (Natural News and 3 or 4 others) are blowing the Boston story, big time.

They are focusing on whether the FBI was involved somehow, which is important given the FBI's history of involvement with terror plots, but they are missing the bigger story of the FBI's non-involvement. It's a disgrace that we knew about this guy and didn't monitor him more closely. As Skin said, why in the hell are we spending tens of billions on DHS and the FBI to fight terror when they constantly screw it up.

The FBI is so f*cked up and disorganized, dominated by internal turf wars, that the higher ups didn't even realize they already had a file on the older brother when they held their big press conference Thursday.

It's a psychedelic clown show, but without Bozo and laughter.

By the way, the best way to alert me is by posting a message in comments of any recent story on the front page. It's better than sending by email.

Not that I'm aware of. We're probably going to be the first. This is going to make news. A big hint in my view is that the video ends immediately after the gunshot sequence. I think the state police (who made the clip) were trying to send a signal by ending it there, They have state of the art video technology. They know exactly what happens at the end.

Well I tried typing in Boston bombing suspect suicide attempt captured live on video and got no results. I even tried on Youtube and nothing. Maybe this will be the first. Everything I read is stating that the authorities are still uncertain if he tried to commit suicide. I did see something stating that the wound appeared to be at close range, which would explain what I saw in the video. I bet if they look in the area where his head was laying, they will find the bullet hole, since he had an exit wound in the back of his neck.
