Massachusets Voters Laugh at Kennedy's Legacy: Scott Brown Pulls Off Historic Upset
State Sen. Scott Brown won a stunning victory over Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley Tuesday night, handing Republicans a 41st seat in the United States Senate and endangering health care reform by bringing an end to the Democrats’ 60-seat majority.
The Associated Press called the race for Brown as the Republican held a 53 percent to 46 percent edge over Coakley with more than 70 percent of precincts reporting. Coakley conceded defeat to Brown in a phone call shortly before the race was called.
Brown addressed a cheering crowd in Boston around 10:30 p.m., telling his exultant backers: “They can hear this cheering all the way in Washington, D.C.”
“I hope they’re paying close attention, because tonight the independent voice of Massachusetts has spoken,” Brown said, holding up a copy of the Boston Herald with the headline: “He did it.”
Telling the crowd he received a phone call from President Obama, Brown alluded to his campaign ads featuring his pickup truck, which the president mocked in a campaign stop Sunday.
“When I spoke to the president, the first thing I said was, would you like me to drive the truck down to Washington so you can see it?” Brown said.
Coakley addressed her supporters just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, offering "an incredibly sincere thank-you for everything that you did."

has comments and details from senators on when brown will be seated and if there will be dirty tricks...
I hope somebody rounds up clips of all the idgits that were so sure she'd win yesterday.
The wierdest thing about all of this, to me, is that it's not a referendum on healthcare reform, it's a referendum on the process....The fact that we don't trust our government to help us by cramming legislation NO ONE understands down our throats just so you can say you DID something.
We can and should improve our healthcare system, but this isn't how you go about it.
WTF?.....What friggin' planet are these people on?.....How much more can you NOT get it???
(That just reminded me of Spinal Tap's "The Black Album", when Nigel says "How much more black could this be? The answer is, "no more black". I mention this because when I start chuckling to myself about Spinal Tap references, it's definitely bedtime)
Good Night
Brown's victory was not so much a vote for Brown, but a vote out of anger, anger of backroom deals, anger over jobs, anger over wars, anger over special deals for politicians and unions, anger over banks, and most importantly, anger because "Yes We Can" morphed into "Business As Usual, Only Worse".
