Issa, Bunning Demand Subpoenas For Fed's AIG Documents

Document: Rep. Darrell Issa's letter to Edolphus Towns asking for a subpoena

Sen. Jim Bunning's letter to Chris Dodd  >>

-----

From the Huffington Post  >>

On Monday, Bunning sent a letter to Dodd, asking him to subpoena the emails and other documents. Bunning and other committee members have thus far had to view the documents at the Federal Reserve and are bound by confidentiality from revealing their contents. "He thinks that all members of the Senate should have access to the documents he's seen," said Bunning spokesman Mike Reynard.

Darrell Issa, in a letter to his committee's chairman, Ed Towns (D-N.Y.), asked for a similar subpoena and even specified exactly which documents he wants: Those tagged electronically as "sb-aig-01000092 to sb-aig-010000125" and "Draft Memo on AIG.pdf."

Towns spokeswoman Jenny Rosenberg said that Towns would decide on a subpoena after Wednesday's hearing on the AIG bailout.

Bunning, in his letter to Dodd, is equally specific, citing nine particular documents that the Senate should review before voting to confirm Bernanke:

1. Agenda and materials for 11/12/2008 meeting of the Board of Directors of AIG (containing minutes of previous board meetings). [AIG_11.12.08_BOD.pdf]

2. Agenda and materials for 1/14/2009 meeting of the Board of Directors of AIG (containing minutes of previous board meetings). [AIG_01.14.09_BOD.pdf]

3. Memo "Issues Related to Possible IPC Lending to American International Group" presented to the Board of Governors for approval of lending to AIG, dated 9/15/2008. [pages sb-aig-01000092 to sb-aig-01000125]

4. Email from Chairman Bernanke including a draft of the memo to be presented to the Board of Governors for approval of lending to AIG, dated 9/15/2008. [Draft Memo on AIG.pdf]

5. Memo "Proposed Securities Lending Facility for American International Group, Inc. ("AIG")" presented to the Board of Governors for approval of the securities lending facility for AIG, dated 10/6/2008. [Board Mtg_10-6-2008_8.35.05_AM.pdf]

6. Memo "Proposed Steps to Stabilize American International Group, Inc." presented to the Board of Governors for approval of restructuring assistance to AIG and creation of Maiden Lane II & III, dated 11/6/2008. [AIG restructuring Board memo Final (Nov. 6, 2008)_11-6-2008_4.55.19_PM.pdf]

7. Spreadsheet describing the assets purchased by Maiden Lane II and Maiden Lane III. [BLK_12.31.08_MLII & III cusip data.xls]

8. Spreadsheet listing derivative transactions and counterparties for Maiden Lane III. [List of Derivative Transactions.pdf]

9. Email exchange regarding restructuring of assistance to AIG, initiated by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, dated 03/01/2009. [AIG Emails, Part3.pdf]

Ken, What do you do for a living? You were in India last week, right? So I'm guessing you are gainfully employed and well respected on your job. Software programmer/development manager?

What's the beef with Ken? He might have a weird style of posting but he's always seemed reasonably polite and civil. Am I missing something here?

RR--Sometimes DB asks him to stop certain things and he doesn't. He can be inconsiderate. Plus he mocks people who want a peaceful revolution.

@SNK
Shucks girl; those all seem to be the traits that I most LIKE about him ! PLUS if DB starts banning based on THOSE arguments it'll automatically eliminate any possible future participation from adolescents and other people with high hormone levels. I say we embrace him within the flock.Or is it herd? Gee now that I think of it we may be a pod.

"PS--I think it's a sinking ship, LOL!"

LOL. Nah, the ship won't necessarily SINK per se.

It'll just continue to simply DRIFT ON, always slightly off-course while the engines continually break down or are forced to work at reduced levels and the ship's paint starts cracking and peeling and rusting and we start tying things together with wire instead of performing proper maintenance and the crews uniforms become kinda tattered and threadbare and our flag is suddenly full of holes and emblazoned with McDonalds ads and the deck is full of potholes and broken timber.

Hey come to think of it, the idea of SINKING LIKE A ROCK almost seems PREFERABLE ..doesn't it?

RLR...you don't see Ken's messages before I edit them usually...some days i have spent more than 30 minutes cleaning up his copy/paste spam all over the site...i more or less have to edit every single one of his comments...HE does ALL CAP SPAMMING...sometimes his messages go on for several scrolling pages before i cut them down to a few paragraphs...but mostly it's because everything he has ever posted has been copy/pasted...he has never discussed issues with any of us...and he likes to quote Louis Farrakhan and post his videos...but other than that he's cool...

and specifically today he was starting to post really long copy/pasted messages in teh LIVE-Blogging thread...where it would get in the way of real discussion...i asked him to stop and then he taunted me...i edited his comment so you didn't see what was there originally...

i've never banned anyone here but Ken...well gobias once for 24 hours...

I'll always be left wondering how many hard boiled eggs Ken coulda eaten tho....

Jan. 27 (Bloomberg) -- The California State Teachers Retirement System, the second biggest U.S. public pension, will need to ask taxpayers for more money after investment losses left it underfunded by $42.6 billion.

The pension’s unfunded liability, the difference between assets and anticipated future costs, almost doubled from $22.5 billion in June 2008, according to a report Chief Executive Officer Jack Ehnes will deliver to the board Feb. 5. The fund will ask lawmakers next year for an increase of as much as 14 percent to what the state and school districts already pay toward employee retirement benefits, said the report, which was posted on the fund’s Web site today.

They did this pretty much with a gun to the head of the American people and the U.S. Congress by warning of martial law and depression. Questioning? Chuckling? Let me break this down for you. I sat down this morning and did a little math to help you understand how much money this is.

Bob Diamond tells CNBC that he does not support or expect any significant regulation of the banking sector including too big to fail banks being broken up or that big is bad.
Bob continues down the path of weaving a web of denial of the fact that the banks CAUSED the financial crisis and recession, and if it were not for tax payers being forced at gun point to bail out the banks then they would all be out of a job. Bob and his fellow banksters clearly have a plan to ensure that NO regulation takes place that impacts on the banks profit model which in the final analysis will AGAIN force the tax payers to bail out the too big to fail banks.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner's opening statement at the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform's hearing to examine the collapse and federal rescue of American International Group. He basically covers his back from hiding the truth whilst acting as President of the New York Fed.
Geithner stated that failure to rescue AIG's would have risked a collapse of the financial system and economy, therefore the Banks held a gun to the tax payers heads and said write a blank check for AIG or you will all die. Committee members offered their sympathy and support for Geithner as the violin played from the gallery during Geithner's statement.
