Daily Bail Exclusive With David Walker: "Young People Wake Up, Ignorance And Apathy Make For A Toxic Mix"

David Walker is the former Comptroller General of the United States (the nation's top independent accountant), and is the current President and CEO of The Peterson Foundation, a group we've highlighted several times, and whose founder Pete Peterson is a multi-decade champion of fiscal responsibility, and a former Wall Street CEO (Lehman Brothers and The Blackstone Group and Chairman of The New York Fed from 2000 to 2004).

From the Peterson Foundation mission statement:

Our mission is to increase public awareness of the nature and urgency of key economic challenges threatening America's future and accelerate action on them. To meet these challenges successfully, we work to bring Americans together to find sensible, sustainable solutions that transcend age, party lines and ideological divides in order to achieve real results.

Among many noteworthy projects, The Foundation helped fund the production of I.O.U.S.A., a commercial film focusing on America's fiscal issues, which many of you saw here.

This week in Chicago, The Peterson Foundation is funding Mobilize.Org's Millennial Youth Summit, Democracy 2.0, which we are attending as press/participants.  David delivered the keynote speech this morning and we spoke with him exclusively after his address.

Zach and Josh do the honors.

I didn't realize Peterson was a former Lehman CEO. My God, is it possible that there is fiscal redemption among former Wall Streeters?
But in other news, did anyone catch Dick Morris' comment to Bill O'Reilly last night about Obama, the "post America" president? I sure did.

This may be a touch off-topic, but in a roundabout way, this is the topic for everything ...

DB, what was the "line of questioning we originally wanted" and why do you think they wouldn't let you get to that?

They (but not Walker himself) wanted us to focus on and ask questions about the Summit....we had about 15 questions related to deficit reduction, entitlement reform, interest on the debt, monetization and quantitative easing, plus a few about financial regulation, the build-up of risk on Wall Street, too big to fail and the bailouts...

But I emailed Walker last night and he responded this morning with an interest in scheduling another interview and meeting in New York next month...to discuss synergies and ways of helping the cause...it's a pretty big deal to me because of the respect i have for dave...

--------

If i'm not mistaken, he ran Lehman in the late 70s early 80s...well before the explosion of leverage...

This is CRAZY...of course...brought to you by the Associated Depressed...

By MIKE BAKER, Associated Press Writer Mike Baker, Associated Press Writer – 16 mins ago
RALEIGH, N.C. – The U.S. Army plans to prevent media from covering Sarah Palin's appearance at Fort Bragg, fearing the event will turn into political grandstanding against President Barack Obama, officials said Thursday.

Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum told The Associated Press that the military post's garrison commander and other Army officials had decided to keep media away from Palin's book signing, which will not include a speech.

The AP and The Fayetteville Observer were protesting the decision to ban media.

McCollum said the Army did not want the Monday event to become a platform to express political opinions "directed against the commander in chief."

OKAY...Let's take a closer look...Gobias please...a closer look...Obama's Fort Hood Speech...

Political grandstanding against President Barack Obama are not okay.

Obama political grandstanding for himself, that's okay.

Obama's Cowardly Fort Hood Speech
J.C. Arenas

Today the President did his job, and I say that in a non-complimentary fashion. He spoke before a nation that was still in mourning over the first terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11, but he did so in a cowardly manner.

At no point during his speech did he mutter any words that describe the enemy we continue to face. He spoke vaguely of "twisted logic" and "extremists", but failed to point the finger directly at Islam. If we didn't know any better, we wouldn't have a clue who or what he was talking about.

However, with all that being said, I'm once again not surprised that Obama willingly chose to miss the boat. First, our aloof commander-in-chief felt the need to send a shout-out to Chief Joe Medicine Crow before he spoke of the 14 dead and 30 wounded at Fort Hood (yes I'm counting the fetus in Francheska Velez's womb), then during the weekend following this horrific incident, he retreated to Camp David while his predecessor quietly went and paid his respects.

If we have any more terrorists disguised in U.S. military fatigues like Nadal Malik Hasan, they have nothing to worry about. Obama will continue to sleep comfortably at night in his Bubble House and his repeated actions of willful ignorance will allow them to conclude he's just asleep at the switch.

Feel any safer yet? No, I don't either.

"I don't care what Rush Limbaugh is talkin' about. Or that Glenn Beck, that Nazi idiot, I don't care what he's talkin' about. If he's not talking about the birth certificate, it don't mean nothin'!"
