EXCELLENT observation.

John Cruz gave an interview early this summer that talks about phantom accounts at length. Cruz was a VP at HSBC in Long Island from 2008 to 2010 who blew the whistle on HSBC in early 2012. His his stunning evidence was ignored. At her confirmation hearing for AG, Loretta Lynch--the lead prosecutor of the HSBC case--was asked if she'd ever looked at Cruz's evidence, and she said no. IOW, she was put on that case to make sure it never went to trial.

In Cruz's recent interview (which predates the Wells Fargo's story, btw), he explains that the phantom accounts typically opened, used to process illicit money transfers, then closed. The purpose of this, he says, is to erase the audit trail.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that you're right, skin, and that the 5 million accounts we're being told about is the tip of an iceberg. Remember, Wachovia was caught money laundering itself. What happened to Wachovia? Yup, it got absorbed into Wells Fargo in 2008, which swooped in and stole the carcass from fellow buzzard Citigroup (which is a very interesting story itself).

The interview is a bit long, but the first 3/4 are wildly entertaining and guaranteed to provoke quite a few "Holy Shit!" moments.

The House Oversight Committee is reviewing a Reddit post that alleges an IT specialist who worked on Hillary Clinton’s private server sought advice on how to alter the contents of “VERY VIP” emails, according to Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.).

Meadows is the chairman of the panel’s Government Operations subcommittee.



“The Reddit post issue and its connection to Paul Combetta is currently being reviewed by OGR staff and evaluations are being made as to the authenticity of the post,” Meadows told The Hill.

Reddit users appear to have uncovered a two-year-old post from an account believed to belong to Combetta, an engineer with Platte River Networks. The Denver, Colo.-based firm managed Clinton’s private server.

The post, which has been deleted but can be read in images archived by Reddit users, coincides with the discovery of Clinton’s use of the server.
