BREAKING: Federal Judge Blocks Controversial Parts Of Arizona Immigration Law

PHOENIX – A federal judge on Wednesday blocked the most controversial parts of Arizona's immigration law from taking effect, delivering a last-minute victory to opponents of the crackdown.

The overall law will still take effect Thursday, but without the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws.

The judge also put on hold parts of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton ruled that the controversial sections should be put on hold until the courts resolve the issues.

The ruling came just as police were making last-minute preparations to begin enforcement of the law at 12:01 a.m. Thursday and protesters were planning a large demonstrations to speak out against the measure. At least one group planned to block access to federal offices, daring officers to ask them their immigration status.

The volume of the protests will be likely be turned down a few notches because of the ruling by Bolton, a Clinton appointee who suddenly became a crucial figure in the immigration debate when she was assigned the seven lawsuits filed against the Arizona law.

Lawyers for the state contend the law was a constitutionally sound attempt by Arizona — the busiest illegal gateway into the country — to assist federal immigration agents and lessen border woes such as the heavy costs for educating, jailing and providing health care for illegal immigrants.

The opponents argued the law will lead to racial profiling, conflict with federal immigration law and distract local police from fighting more serious crimes. The U.S. Justice Department, civil rights groups and a Phoenix police officer had asked the judge for an injunction to prevent the law from being enforced.

WASHINGTON – New York Democrat Charles Rangel made a last-minute effort Tuesday to settle his ethics case and prevent a House trial that could embarrass him and damage the Democratic Party.

Every person accused of a crime or an ethics violation deserves a competent defense. Charlie Rangel's legal defense, fittingly, comes from K Street.

Two of the three firms providing legal counsel to Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., in his pending ethics cases are lobbying firms. In fact, one firm, Oldaker, Belair & Wittie, conducts much of Rangel's political fundraising, while operating four different lobby shops.

But who's ultimately paying Rangel's legal bills? Mostly corporate and union political action committees along with individual lobbyists. Over the past six months, PACs and lobbyists have accounted for a majority of the money Rangel's campaign has raised this year, not counting transfers from Rangel's other fundraising operations (more on them below).

arizona should sue the feds.

obama spent 1 year pushing healthcare and catering to illegal immigrant mobs. illegals are the largest population of uninsured. free healthcare passes, but that's not enough. now its wide open borders. the american people say no. the federal govt is breaking the law. suing arizona for securing the borders. not suing sactuary cities who are in clear violation of federal law.

the az law mirrors federal law. if washington wants to repeal the federal law, then do that. in court. not in the newspapers painting americans as racists. the law makers are siding with the law breakers.

hell is a place with no reason. welcome to hell.

"Z" the goverment is staging this just the way they want it to go off. Making the good people look bad, just for sticking up with "The Law".

This is nothing but a front, to tare down the real American People. The Goverment dosent plan to help the illegal people, just make them think the goverment is working to make them Leagle. After the votes, thier still illegal people in our country.

arizona should sue the feds. .....but Az dont have Deep Pockets, like the goverment. Goverment could break Az in 45 days. One thing I feel is the goverment is "Scared-2-Death" of us becouse it took "The Wizzered of O-Bama Oz" to wake up the Sheepel.

Now its time to Schmier us any way they can, and its not working anymore. Sorry, sometimes im talkin to my self "Z" !

"...it's arizona's law and the rest of us don't have a right to get involved in their problem."

Exactly. I APPLAUD Arizona for standing-up to the U.S. federal government on this issue. Or on ANY issue, actually.
We need MORE individual states to start defying the federal government on matters in which the latter proved to be ineffectual or outrightly INCOMPETENT.

The original purpoe of the U.S. federal government was a) to deal with foreign relationships and b) mediate disputes between the states. PERIOD. How times have changed.
Now it seems as if WE the people exist solely for the entertainment and prosperity of our federal government.

In fact, sometimes it seems like at this rate we're only about a few months away from having ATM microchips surgically implanted up our asses by Goldman Sachs, so that they can automatically debit our accounts for the air we breath, while our government looks on approvingly at our submission.

how about that? 1 activist judge can wipe out the votes of millions of people who said 'stop the illegal immigration. secure the borders'

I've seen the word......"Nullafacation" I butchered that one, but you know what Im saying. I see it on many web-sites that as many as 32 states are getting ready to pass thier own law, and break away from Washington. In the end, the states have the final say. The Feds. only bluff thier way to the Sheeple............
