BP will be held responsible for all damages: AG Eric Holder (Latest Spill Updates -- BP Suspends Dividend)

BP accused of 'lack of integrity' by US House speaker

The US attorney general said America would "not pay a dime" for cleaning up.

BP would be held responsible for all damages, Eric Holder said.

In another development, the Obama administration said BP had agreed to quickly meet the compensation claims of businesses and individuals whose livelihoods had been disrupted by the spill.

  • "It is clear that there was a lack of integrity on the part of BP when it came to what it told us about the adequacy of their technology, the sufficiency of blow-out prevention and the capacity to clean up," Speaker Pelosi said.
  • "I can make this pledge to the American people - that the American people will not pay a dime for the clean-up of the Gulf region and that BP will be held responsible for all the damages that have occurred," Mr Holder told reporters in Washington.
  • "We will take the necessary steps to make sure that that occurs."

Oil spill: BP plans to suspend shareholder dividend

"In practice, Monday's discussion at newly instituted weekly meetings of the board will be about when to suspend the payments, how long to suspend the payments, and what to do with the billions of dollars that would be saved and not paid to shareholders," Robert Peston said.

I'm glad that Nancy Pelosi is an expert on deep-well drilling. She certainly knows nothing about governing. And Holder is another affirmative action idiot. When the costs of cleanup bankrupt BP, the UK, who actually owns BP might have a few words on whose going to pay for the clean up. Or does the Obama administration plan to let 500 million barrels of oil wash around the gulf until the 30 years of legal battles end?

America is already paying, the Goobermint has tripled workers in the region building a berm, while BP did a photo op. Who is paying the unemployment of the affected workers in fishing, tourism, etc., what about lost tax revenues, or business's that have been destroyed or yet to be destroyed by this?

Certainly not BP. The money saved by dropping the dividend will probably be spent where it will benefit the most, campaign contributions...

And then there is that pesky cap thing, if China allows them to destroy the formation by nuking it, where will BP get the bomb, ebay? China really needs that oil, and they do not care about our coastal areas, and neither do the British.

America has mortgaged the farm to foreign interests "leveraging our debt" instead of acting responsibly, and both parties did it, and all herd animals are responsible.
