I have heard this word applied to the country I live in all my life.  I was taught and have always believed that honesty, truth, and rule of law were a big part of what makes a democracy work.  And that honesty, truth, rule of law and justice were a big part of what made the United States of America the greatest country on earth.  I know the elite have always had their blood-sucking presence in attendance and they have always been able to buy a Senator or two and sometimes more.  Same with members of the House. 

But it seems in the last ten or fifteen years or so things have changed in a big way.  The big banks on Wall Street have become corrupt gambling houses.  Lying and committing fraud on a massive scale that misleads investors, and cheats the American Taxpayer out trillions of dollars, is now standard operating procedure.  And it's obvious that it could not have been accomplished without the complicity of the Federal Reserve, the regulatory agencies, the U.S. Congress and the Presidential Administrations of both Bush and Obama. 

However, until recently I still believed that truth and justice would prevail and the American people would find out what really caused the collapse of our economy.  A few months ago Ron Paul  introduced HR 1207, a bill that would require a complete audit of the Federal Reserve.  318 Representatives ended up cosponsoring that bill.  They became aware of the fact that 75 to 80 percent of the people polled wanted that audit.  Their staffs got the message by phone, by email and in person.  So just as I was beginning to feel some optimism, along comes:

The Great American Theater Group known as the United States Congress.

Plan of attack:

Ignore important issues like HR 1207 and S 604 and keep them in committee until it becomes apparent the voters are fed up.  Then pass 1207 in the House as a delay tactic.  Have Chris Dodd bring forth the great Consumer Financial Protection Agency.  Behind the scenes turn it into the Great Consumer Financial Destruction Agency.  Then get Bernie Sanders to act like he's really working for the voters and pushing for a similar measure with S-604.  Behind the scene gut the amendment  so it's not worth the paper it's written on.

Other actors will realize they may have lost some of their voter base, so they will sign on when they know it's gutted and it's too late to influence the outcome --  like Harry Reid, Chris Dodd, the Deficit President and some other wise politicians. 

The whole thing is scripted so the American people can be sold another meaningless stack of paper and the politicians can pretend that they are real legislators working for the people.  The end result will be a Consumer Financial Protection Agency that is still under the thumb of Wall Street.  It will allow the big bank gambling casinos to keep rolling along with little oversight. 

And the full audit of the Federal Reserve ends up a virtual  nonstarter. This allows the rich to get richer and leaves the American middle class hanging on to the side of a bottomless pit of debt, with total collapse a distinct possibility in the near future.

I realize now that I may be living in what used to be the greatest country on the planet, though it's new title is the most corrupt country on the planet.  A motion to return the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform bill to committee and add back the original full Fed audit was defeated -- with 114 of the original cosponsors of HR 1207 voting against it. 

It would appear that donations from the big banks mean more to these people then the voters do.  I hope the voters remember this in November.  I know I will along, with my family and most of my friends.

The article reads like a piece of satire. Even as Greece finds itself roiled in the depths of financial crisis, seeking any way possible to claw its way out from under a crushing mountain of debt, the Greek government is spending billions of euros' worth of precious capital on – wait for it – F-16 fighter jets and submarines.

Greece, according to the WSJ, is shelling out €1.5 billion for U.S.-made fighter planes... and another €1 billion or more on submarines from Germany.

No matter how you slice it, €2.5 billion is some serious dough – close to 1% of Greek GDP. And the Greek army (just try to say "Greek army" without snickering) already has eight submarines. Eight.

Now they need two more submarines? Plus fighter jets?

Who do they think is going to attack them? Sparta?
