Ben Bernanke Must be Stopped: A Call For Action (Sample Senate Letter Enclosed; Don't Forget To Sign Bernie Sanders Petition)

By Mark McHugh

The pending reappointment of Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Federal Reserve is the non-story of the Century, and I find this terrifying.  Propaganda of his alleged “success” has been crammed in every orifice of the American people by the rich and shameless (yet relatively few believe it).   This is truly the time for action, unless you really enjoy Tea-partying ’til you puke.  I’m asking every American to demand that their Senators stand up and oppose the nomination.  Our future depends on it.

Contact your Senator

Sign Bernie Sanders' Petition To Prevent Bernanke's Reappointment >>

----------

So much for that “Of the people, by the people,  for the people” crap…

Explain this to me: 21% of adult Americans favor the re-appointment  of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, yet only four Senators have had the intestinal fortitude to step up and say they oppose him.  An alarming 39% of Americans aren’t sure.  This I cannot fathom;  it’s as pathetic as being “on the fence” about slavery or child-pornography.  Let’s review the mind-boggling difference between what Bernanke did and what he wassupposed to do.

Here is the Federal Reserve’s Mission Statement, presented in its entirety:

  • conducting the nation’s monetary policy by influencing the monetary and credit conditions in the economy in pursuit of maximum employment, stable prices, and moderate long-term interest rates
  • supervising and regulating banking institutions to ensure the safety and soundness of the nation’s banking and financial system and to protect the credit rights of consumers
  • maintaining the stability of the financial system and containing systemic risk that may arise in financial markets
  • providing financial services to depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign official institutions, including playing a major role in operating the nation’s payments system.
  • These four simple sentences comprise Ben Bernanke’s job description.  There’s not anything in there about monitoring men’s underwear sales to divine economic conditions (which seriously, is what Greenspan did).  Worse yet, the Fed is trying to leverage its own criminally negligent failures into a coup to seize even more power and control.  But hey, if four sentences is too much for you, the so-called congressional mandate for the Fed can be boiled down to five words:

    Stable Prices and Maximum Employment

The Federal Reserve failed to follow very simple instructions.  There is no other way to see it.  It wasn’t circumstances beyond their control, it was the very circumstances that they were supposed to control that caused the meltdown.  They sat on their hands while housing prices soared on easy money and created the biggest asset bubble the world has ever seen.   No money down, subprime, ARM, 125% loan-to-value, and interest-only mortgages were “all-good” with Ben and Al.  The fact that these were credit-driven, unstable, and unsustainable prices was lost on them.

Bernanke ignored both reality and his job instructions for as long as possible.  The fallout from that failure looks like this:

It is important to note that this is the polished-up “official” government numbers.  Anyone on this side of the rainbow already knows, the reality is much worse.  In fact the smart guys at Trim Tabs assert that the BLS missed the November jobs report by over 200,000.

    A Vicious Cycle continues…

Thanks to Bernanke’s incompetence, price instability has reached biblical proportions.  For example, Oil has traded everywhere between $32.40 and $147 per barrel in the last 18 months.  How’s that for price stability?  I can sight so many examples of price instability that, rather than list them all, I made this nice collage:

And if this isn’t enough to convince you how horrendous a job Bernanke has done, there’s always this:

    (Image from http://www.babylontoday.com/)

Bernanke “saved” Wall St.  with US taxpayer money who have borrowed more than $6000 for every man, woman and child in the country in the last twelve months alone.  Yet  to this day, he refuses to divulge exactly what  is on the Fed’s balance sheet.  The idea that any nation can borrow its way to prosperity is utterly insane, yet here we are, trying to drink ourselves sober, and sticking our kids with the bill.  To call the architect of such a plan a “hero” is an insult to our intelligence.

America should be discussing prison terms for Bernanke and his accomplices (who incidentally will be getting record bonuses this Christmas), not reappointment, and anyone who says he’s done a good job is either a liar or a fool.  He’s an arsonist masquerading as a fire fighter and there is no other way to see it.  This story should be front and center in America.  Instead it’s being treated like a non-event, a forgone conclusion.  And the few Senators who have stood up against the generational-rape of America are being labeled cranks.

     Madness……

Let your Senator know that if he doesn’t stand up right now, his punk-ass is gone!  Link to list at Senate.gov

(this is the official end of the post)

Bonus material (how I really feel):

I am an American, first and foremost.  The principles our Country was founded on are more important to me than my own comfort, even my own life.  Anyone willing to compromise those principles is destined to be enslaved, and of no use to me.

Change you can believe in” has been cancelled, we now return to another episode of “Crooks playing musical chairs

    Pick a Conspiracy Theory….

Any shit-for-brains conspiracy theory you want, and you’ll find those whack-jobs have far more evidence than Bernanke supporters.  I find Bernanke supporters every bit as loathsome as Holocaust deniers.  People willing to stick their heads in their asses, so they can live with themselves.

I’m making a list and checking it twice…..

It’s time to do the right thing.  I expect every American to make their voice heard loud and clear about Bernanke’s reappointment.  This goes a hundred-fold for those in the public eye (TV personalities, writers, and yes, even bloggers).  Those who fail to take a clear stand are cowards in my eyes and will be treated with the disrespect cowards deserve.

    My letters:

    Dear Senator Casey,
I am writing you to inquire why you have not spoken out in opposition to the reappointment of Ben Bernanke as Chairman of the Federal Reserve.  It should be clear to anyone of average intelligence that Bernanke has behaved in a criminally negligent manner and I am confused as to why any Senator would be reluctant to say so.

If you fail to speak out against the generational-rape of America, I will make it my business to make sure people like you are removed from office.

America can no longer afford cowardly, or dim-witted leadership.

    Thanks for your time,

    Mark

    ***

    Dear Senator Spector,

I am urging you to stand up in oppostion to the reappointment of Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Anyone who has been around as long as you should understand what functions the Fed is supposed to perform and that Bernanke has been criminally derelict in those duties. Why would you remain silent on the generational rape of America?

Pennsylvanians deserve integrity in their leaders, please don’t leave a legacy of cowardice.

    Thanks,

    Mark

You can't turn the Barry Soetoro voters, they didn't even know who they were voting for. No, I voted McCain/Palin.

I believe we are all on the same team. We each have different roles; why belabor that? It's a long road ahead, let's not burn out now. Keep going.

Gee Gobias, I do not try to turn Obamites, or McCainites, herd animals know no other way, they merely keep perpetuating the same mess over, and over again. "But wait, next time will be different..."

McCain/ Palin had the same contributors, now I am impressed.

Yes, that is correct. Next time will be different. Oh shit, isn't that like promising change.

    That's the Change We Need.

It Is now 10th Master (Guru Gobind Singh) command to follow:

The glorification of the sword itself which he eulogized as Bhaguati was to secure fulfilment of God'sjustice. The sword was never meant as a symbol of aggression, and it was never to be used for self-aggrandizement. It was the emblem of manliness and self-respect and was to be used only in self-defence, as a last resort. For Guru Gobind Singh said in a Persian couplet in his Zafarnamah:

When all other means have failed,
It is but lawful to take to the sword.

Let me explain a few things to you GBF,

You're right I didn't mention Obama by name in the post (although I did make the reference "Change you can believe in has been canceled....." nor did I mention George W., and that's not a coincidence. The office should be respected. period. That's part of what being an American means.

Durring the 2000 campaign, my computer desktop was Bush and Cheney morfed into Beavis and Butthead (it was awesome by the way). I took it down the day after the election. Know why? because whether I liked it or not he was now the President of my country. Funny story, he actually didn't win the popular vote, and probably would not have won the electoral vote had his brother not been in charge of the state in question. This by the way, is the kind of shit that happens in banana republics. Know how many times I complained that he wasn't the "real" President????? wait for it........Zero. and not just because I'm not a whiny pussy like you. If anything is ever gonna get done, anywhere, people have to work together, which means accepting leadership. Anyone who has ever played sports, been in the military, or held down a job knows this.

I can just see you in the huddle, "you're not the real quaterback.....Sarah Palin's a better quarterback than you...... I don't wanna run that play.....when can I have the ball?....if I don't get the ball, I'm not playin'" I don't even have to meet you to know that you're a loser. I would kick your pathetic ass out of here, if it were my choice. But you do so clearly illustrate the cry-baby, miss the fucking point mentality that plagues this country, maybe it's important to remember that where ever we are going, we're gonna have to carry slugs like you.

I wonder, did you contact your Senators about having Bernanke dismissed? Or were you too busy writing "I told you Obama sucks" to actually become a part of the process that the founding fathers instituted?
Dec 11, 2009 at 9:01 PM | Unregistered Commentermark mchugh
Ouch, still smarting over the Al Gorelioni getting beat by Dubya. Live in the past much Mark? How's that working for ya? P.S., Kerry lost in 2004. If I am hiking the ball to Sarah, there is gonna be a looooooong snap count.

Yes Mark, I missed your point because I smelled a rat. You proved it by your comments here. Again, just because I didn't share your opinion, don’t go all Allen Grayson on me. You would kick me out because you need an echo chamber to keep thinking you are right while Barry keeps sucking wind. All I did was yawn at you. Someone with your insight should be able to flex your tolerance muscles at will.

You say…“If anything is ever gonna get done, anywhere, people have to work together, which means accepting leadership.” Sorry that the reality of Obama wasn’t up to par with the myth he built between your ears. I know for guys like you that couldn’t see Obama for what he was during the campaign, this smarts. Take your medicine pal or you can keep following that fraud but don’t expect me to start following him. I never got behind that snake oil salesman and I never will.

Wait for it…your post was a complaint. Yes, a “real” complaint. I am sure it was not the first time you have grumbled over Dubya. Enjoy your waning majority. Soon most people will want Dubya back over that community organizing Marxist. Wait for it...

    Hahahah!

Nice reading skills. Just cause I remeber the past don't mean I live there. read it again.

And now, you missing the point as part of your cunning, over-arching, plan (too funny)

You have the opportunity to effect the change the direction the country is going in, but it's of no use to you cause it doesn't tie into your Barry Soetoro thesis. Yeah, somehow removing Bernanke plays right into the Dems plans, and you're not going to fall for that old trick!!!

    You're killing me here!

So you should hate Bernanke, because Obama wants him, but people who you think love Obama don't want him, so you'll be damned if you co-operate with those people, so you won't speak out against Bernanke to your Senator, which is exactly what Barack wants you to do!

    Congratulations! You've just mindfreaked yourself.

It sounds like you think Obama is at the top of the pyramid. Come on Mark. Barry is at least four or five levels down from the top.

Bernanke is a central bank worker bee. Central bank is run and managed partly by the Group of Thirty (level three or four - Volcker).

They (Bernanke is hired by they) picked Obama, not the other way around. You have some catching up to do. I will wait...

Hmmmm I have some catching up?

This is from earlier in this very post, fucktard:

" And he was nominated by Goldman Sachs, who purchased the soul of one Barack Obama (or Barry Soetoro as you like to call him) for the amazingly low price of $994,795 (less than the average bonus)."

And here we see why I "Grayson" on Numbskulls like you. You don't read the posts, you can't remeber what you were told ten fucking minutes ago, yet you think the world should listen to your "insight", you think you have something to say........

Trust me on this, you don't

Goldman Sachs???, wrong. The reason I am so smart and know so much is because I can spot a wannabe from a mile away. You, my friend, are a wannabe. If anything you say or said was worth remembering, I will be the first to let you know. Until then, keep trying. You are just a level one thinker but if pointed in the right direction, you could make a great soldier. Otherwise, you are just a cafone (look it up fucktard).

ken, I am very familiar with your history, I am asking you to check your loop.

"When all other means have failed,
It is but lawful to take to the sword."

All means have not failed, because you have not truly tried, No Fear, No Hatred, the night is young... What style of swordplay do you prefer, I personally am very adept at the way of Shammah.

I can still pee in my yard, so all is not lost...

    See the three laws below;

    * Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem: any logical model of reality is incomplete (and possibly inconsistent) and must be continuously refined/ adapted in the face of new observations.

    * Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle: there is a limit on our ability to observe reality with precision.

    * Second Law of Thermodynamics: The entropy of any closed system always tends to increase, and thus the nature of any given system is continuously changing even as efforts are directed toward maintaining it in its original form.

"Yes, that is correct. Next time will be different. Oh shit, isn't that like promising change."

You are really stuck in the loop, do you still wear a mullet?

"It sounds like you think Obama is at the top of the pyramid. Come on Mark. Barry is at least four or five levels down from the top."

Oxymoron, for months you have said that the tieless one is the top, and responsible for all evil since the creation of the FED (Obama wasn't even a wet dream in his fathers eye back then). Oh, that's right, every four years the other herd is the antichrist, even though the Bible states that he shall come one time, and be from a specific place, by your own admission, you are chasing the tail... False prophet, that is really bad.

"They (Bernanke is hired by they) picked Obama, not the other way around. "

"They", backed both, and it is clear to see, if you follow the money...

Mark, excellent points, Gobias is still that captive on the rocks, trying to call boats in... Maybe he will tell us about soldiering tomorrow, I am truly excited...

    Gomp,

Thank God you showed up. It was really getting tedious with me and Gobby.

This is fun, for years it seems, Gobby blamed everything on Barry. Barry this, Barry that (yawn). Then, get this he drops the bombshell, "It sounds like you think Obama is at the top of the pyramid" You can't make this stuff up!

Somewhere there's gotta be a shrink that would just drool over this.

I'd like to ask why he's devoted his life to attacking a low-level minion, but I'm afraid of where that bus might go...

    Gomp & James,

There seems to be a lot of this "we must revolt" sentiment out there, ya know. And when you say, "Well, why don't you vote or call your Senator or something", you get crickets chirping.......then, "that doesn't work".

Are we sure? Because war ain't like "Grand Theft Auto". You don't get to slaughter zombies all day, then swing by Mickey D's on the way home, watch TV and settle in a nice hot bath.

I don't understand why people can't be bothered using the system we have (which incidentally, has worked pretty well). They'd rather make poster board signs and kill each other.

    'Sup with that?
Dec 12, 2009 at 1:57 AM | Unregistered Commentermark mchugh
    mark,

I guess I'm understanding what you're saying (and I've posted on here some of my interactions with my critters), but I don't at all blame people who don't bother calling or writing their critter. TARP was opposed something like 100-1, but the eejits voted for it anyway. (THAT'S RIGHT, JOE DONNELLY, YOU'RE A FUCKIN' EEJIT.) Way I see it, you use the system as best you can -- e.g. you expect, or pretend to expect, your critter to listen to you. Alinsky agrees on this point. But you don't really expect them to listen to you. Take the Dec. of Independence. They appealed (sort of) to George III and Parliament, but they didn't really expect them to listen. It was just a conventional first step, preparatory to shootin'.

I'm pretty sure "that doesn't work," but there's no harm, and all kinds of good, from trying. Sort of like: "I gave him three chances, but he just wouldn't be good. So...I had to take him behind the woodshed and whoop his ass."

I guess I'm less interested in why people won't bother calling or writing their critter than I am in the mere fact that so many people are just itchin' for revolution. That's healthy and good. And I wouldn't mind too much if we did have a little revolution. It beats getting financially ass-raped (IMHO).

Do you really think BHO gives a shit about the likes of patriots like us? Nope. He's as sorry an excuse for a human being as George W. Bush. I don't understand , and I never will understand, the irrational good will some people have towards BHO. Maybe it's only because Bush was so freakin' bad.

In any case, I've had it.

Since this is the hot thread, I just wanted to let you all know that Ron Paul is going to be CO-HOSTING Squawk Box Tuesday, Dec 15 from 8-9am eastern!!! (Received notification from C4L.)

I also wonder about the type of revolution this should be. Everyone is highly frustrated, but hey, the Revolutionary War officially lasted 8 years and Ron Paul has been trying (by himself) to audit the Fed for 20+ years. We have only been doing this for one year--we are really just starting, right?

In the end I look to Ron Paul's example. His temperament and perseverance are inspirational. Plus at the risk of losing credibility around here, I'd throw in a little Hillary. I'll just leave it at that :)

Campaign for Liberty is a beehive of activity for change. Everyone should join it. Then run for congress, or at least help out a good candidate. It's got to be from the inside out, imho.

Every time a terrorist looks in the mirror, he sees a freedom fighter.

Timothy McVeigh thought we was starting a revolution against tyranny. He wasn't. He just murdered a bunch of people (19 of them small children). I have no desire to follow his footsteps, nor become a victim of his kind.

I truly understand and share the frustration, but before we take up the sword against each other, I'd like to think we exhausted all other means. That was why I wrote this article. If millions spoke out against Bernanke and we were ignored maybe I'd agree that it was time for revolution. But it's hundreds, maybe thousands who've spoken up. That's not enough for a sucessful revolution, a terrorist faction maybe, but not enough to change things for the better.

So needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed by the "that won't work" attitude, on trying to win one very, very small battle.

    Ken,
How do I put this mildly... You are only a slave if you choose to be, only you can accept the yoke. I am no slave...
If you do choose the yoke, wear it proudly and do not whine.

Morpheus: I imagine that right now you're feeling a bit like Alice. Tumbling down the rabbit hole?
    Neo: You could say that.
Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he's expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?
    Neo: No.
    Morpheus: Why not?
Neo: 'Cause I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know, you can't explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there. Like a splinter in your mind -- driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?
    Neo: The Matrix?
Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is?
    (Neo nods his head.)
Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere, it is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, or when go to church or when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
    Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind. (long pause, sighs) Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back.
(In his left hand, Morpheus shows a blue pill.)
Morpheus: You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. (a red pill is shown in his other hand) You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. (Long pause; Neo begins to reach for the red pill) Remember -- all I am offering is the truth, nothing more.
(Neo takes the red pill and swallows it with a glass of water)

    The Matrix
written by Andy Wachowski & Larry Wachowski

Take the blue pill, if you cannot stand the truth...

"You Ridicule Dr. Ron Paul but remember he is only the one focused on "End The Fed" for last 25 years and against the Military Gang Complex Aka War Machine."

I do not ridicule Dr. Paul, and have stated before that I liked him as much as McCarthy, but he still is answering to the party for endorsement, now if he would be thrown out of the party for "not toeing the party line", that would truly be interesting, in a totally mavericky sort of way...

The blue pill people will never endorse Dr. Paul, because he "scares" them. Just look at Gobias... And he should have made it through the primary instead of the Keating 5 candidate, but did not, because the contributors fear him. You have to make it through the primaries of our one party (left, and right wing Socialist) to be on the ballot, wishing does not get you there...

"This is fun, for years it seems, Gobby blamed everything on Barry.

It is very Freudian, in a phallic sort of way, isn't it. Obama, McCain, Palin, and Gobias have so much in common that it is amazing. They all are Communitarians, They all believe they are right, and do not need the input of others ( Democracy in name only), And they all worship a liberal Chicago Socialist community organizer named Saul Alinsky, and they all are blaming someone else... The list goes on, but I have to go split some firewood.

"There seems to be a lot of this "we must revolt" sentiment out there, ya know. And when you say, "Well, why don't you vote or call your Senator or something", you get crickets chirping.......then, "that doesn't work"."

Everybody will talk the talk, but then when it is time to do anything, they will only support you while hiding under the bed...
If you had any idea how many times I have been the last man standing, you would have a truly unique perspective on life.

Then if you won, people will crawl out from under the beds, and quickly start take credit for what you done... defeatists and herd animals will always choose a familiar hell over a unfamiliar heaven 100% of the time. And many wear their yokes proudly...

"Take the Dec. of Independence. They appealed (sort of) to George III and Parliament, but they didn't really expect them to listen. It was just a conventional first step, preparatory to shootin'."

Good points James, did you know that on March 16, 1778 -the British peace commission sent to Philadelphia offered to repeal all taxes and submit to all American demands except independence. The proposed compromise was rejected by Congress. Since then, we fought the war of 1812 against the English, and have been doing England's bidding, and taxed to death ever since.

So my question is... What did we really win.

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution

"I truly understand and share the frustration, but before we take up the sword against each other, I'd like to think we exhausted all other means. That was why I wrote this article. If millions spoke out against Bernanke and we were ignored maybe I'd agree that it was time for revolution. But it's hundreds, maybe thousands who've spoken up. That's not enough for a sucessful revolution, a terrorist faction maybe, but not enough to change things for the better."

I agree Mark, many do not think of the suffering of the innocent that would be involved, and witnessing the horrors, you never forget, and live with the rest of your life.

All has not been exhausted... Those who espouse violence first, are always the ones supporting from under the bed...

I thrilled that I could help. DB, see, they need me and I really enjoy watching the left crash and burn under Obama. Yes, I will be even more thrilled when Barry is sent back to Chicago but I am happy for now. Your devotees try to get the best of me but then I have them using my terms in minutes. What fun. DB, did you see Sarah on Conan - very funny. Sarah is quite the package. She has the looks, the humor, the brains, and the agenda. It is so refreshing. Well, as you can see, I debunked your friend Mark. Is that the best you could find DB, wow, so sorry. I think he called me every name in the book in his silly efforts to debate me. Where oh where do you find these people. He put a lot of effort into his work but it was full of holes and reeked of the radical left. Actually, the radical left without a home. Makes me happy that people are starting to gain appreciation for Dubya. Obama even has these leftists running for cover. I think you are winning Ken over.

AP WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama singled out financial institutions for causing much of the economic tailspin and criticized their opposition to tighter federal oversight of their industry.

Really. Obama, if you want appreciation, find Monica Lewinsky. That’s what Bill had to do.

    Gobias says;

"It sounds like you think Obama is at the top of the pyramid. Come on Mark. Barry is at least four or five levels down from the top."

Sounds like you enjoy chasing the tail... I warned you about what happens when the tail goes up, so please turn your head.

McCain was directly involved in our last banking scandal that defrauded millions, thanks for your support.

Continuing on the Gobby theme (this is all from this post):

"Mark, didn't Bernanke just get another term?" (displays reading skills and knowledge of current events)

"Your boy (Jimmy Carter) is eating it big time. Is it time to tell everyone he is more white than black and more connected than a Kennedy? " (references to Presidents from 1960's & 70's)

    then....

"Live in the past much Mark?" (apparently not as much as Gobby)

"Yes Mark, I missed your point because I smelled a rat." (Gobby goes Geraldo? Sherlock Homey?)

"Well, as you can see, I debunked your friend Mark. Is that the best you could find DB, wow, so sorry. I think he called me every name in the book in his silly efforts to debate me" (I wiped my ass with your face, and that's putting it kindly. Nice to see your self-esteem's intact, though, because that was me being polite).

"Obama, if you want appreciation, find Monica Lewinsky. That’s what Bill had to do." (more wiving in the past)

I guess the only question I have at this point is "How hard do you have to squeeze to get that much shit to come out of your head?"

I'm guessing probably not that hard...

Americans Unready to Revolt, Despite Revolting Conditions

I have long asserted that Americans live in a delusional democracy with delusional prosperity and these and loads of other data support this view. There is a super wealthy and politically powerful Upper Class that is literally raping the nation. Meanwhile, the huge Lower Class continues to lose economic ground while their elected representatives sell them out to benefit the Upper Class. Yet no rational person thinks that a large fraction of the population is ready to rise up in revolt against the evil status quo political-economic system that so clearly is not serving the interests of the overwhelming majority of Americans. Why not?

For a nation that was built on a revolt against oppressive governance by the British, something has been lost from our political DNA. We apparently no longer have the gene for political rebellion. It has been bred out of most of us. And those of us that urge a Second American Revolution are seen as fringe, nutty subversives.

We Are A Failing State: How Do We Turn This Around?

The United States of America is failing. Failing to adequately tackle the problems in our economic system. Failing to reflect on the deep flaws in our system of government. Failing to repair our image abroad. Failing in education, in healthcare, in human rights, in religious tolerance...

In fact, we look a lot like the USSR in 1990 - except with more big-screen TV's. And we all know what happened to them.

    Who Runs the Government?
The RIGHT-LEFT political dichotomy that guides all our political discussions today is obsolete. It's not a question of more or less government. Both conservatives and liberals are in favor of big government, but for different purposes: the former to help religion, the latter to help the poor and helpless. The real division is about who runs the government: business or people.

    The Bush Decision/The Obama Decision

If this is how we make our decisions, we're screwed. Oh, I'm not talking about Obama. Right or wrong, Obama took time to consider what he was doing, and how long he would be doing it.
The rest of us are who I am ashamed of. We're still thinking politically and rhetorically about things we should be addressing practically.

    Ken,

I think what me and Gompers are trying to say is something like, "You don't burn down your house cause you've got some termites."

You should focus on getting rid of the termites, then stay vigilant that they don't come back. That was our mistake. We hypnotized ourselves by repeating, "We're the greatest country in the World" over and over, while we blinded ourselves to reality.

Say what you want, but I still believe America is more good than evil, and I want to see it restored, not torched. I mean, think about it, half the countries in the world would have already rounded someone like you up as a political prisoner.

Ken, just for kicks you should do an FOIA request on yourself. See what they've got on you.

The DOJ has a list of contacts. Apparently you have to file the request with a particular agency. If I were you, I'd start with FBI and Treasury. Then DHS.

    mark,

Still and all, you've got to make the termites at least a little nervous now and then -- that you MIGHT burn the house down. Either way, nobody in his right mind is going to just up and start shootin'.

On the third hand, Ken usually qualifies his rants, saying that he only means non-violent revolution through civil disobedience. I am 100% ready and willing, but it's gotta be worth the hassle. Is a national strike day still viable? Maybe connect it to the tea party stuff.

Maybe Dylan Ratigan or (Lord help us) Glenn Beck would be willing to give it publicity. It would take some good groundwork before hand to work and to get attention. But there must be something we could do. Maybe burn Obama and Blankfein in effigy in every public square in America. Or better yet, a massive Take Your Money out of the TARP Banks Day. LOL! Seriously, there's gotta be something we can do besides mope and vote.
    Dec 13, 2009 at 1:24 AM | Unregistered CommenterJames H
James, I've said it before. Get a safe deposit box, cash out your account, walk ten feet, drop it in and vaporize the bank's capital tenfold.

That might be the smart thing to do anyway. But as Gomp points out, they'll just print more. Tax revolt seems pointless to me, because they can spend our money without collecting it through the magic of deficit spending.

I understand the idea of being ready to revolt. Honestly though, I don't trust anyone (and sorry folks, but that includes Ron Paul), to design a better system than the founding fathers did. And even if RP was elected President, he'd still have 535 "Eejits" to contend with to get anything done (unless we're talking about setting him up as dictator). So were right back to re-training our critters.....

And not to belabor the point, but that was what this article was about. Maybe we were 100 to 1 opposed to TARP, but I didn't tell my Senators and reps what I thought; I should have. We seem to have lost interest in a beautifully designed system of checks and balances. I don't think the system failed us as much as I think we let the system get hijacked by a select few. That's at least partly our fault.

Wow Ken, That was a sacrilegious shocker, here I thought you were showing me where I cosigned the national debt.

It is not my debt, as to apathy, I am the one who has registered voters. Talk to me about apathy after you personally have registered more than 50% of this nation.

You must be living on extensive credit to be this worried about this, but guess what, If the system collapses, and there are no more banks, who do you send your debt payments to. Nobody.

If the system collapsed today, this years harvest would get me through next year. come spring I would plant for next years harvest, start cutting next years wood, and the process would be repeated the following year. I do not need credit or fiat currency to fulfill instant gratification needs for useless imported plastic and gizmo's. That is a requirement for the black friday consumerist herd... Trading interest payments for useless plastic.

My wants are very simple, perhaps you should simplify your life... My life requires effort, not sitting around watching an imported tv, try it , you might like it, the only other alternative is buying a 55 gallon drum of vasoline... Because you will need it.

"I think what me and Gompers are trying to say is something like, "You don't burn down your house cause you've got some termites.""

Thanks Mark, I was having trouble getting that across.

"I understand the idea of being ready to revolt. Honestly though, I don't trust anyone (and sorry folks, but that includes Ron Paul), to design a better system than the founding fathers did. I agree, and the best way to get the system working to our benefit is voter education and registration, the elected like the voter apathy in the system today. It allows the minority to rule the majority unchecked.

"Is a national strike day still viable? "

Far as I could tell, I was the only one on strike in November.

In its most nonviolent form (in India, known as ahimsa or satyagraha) it could be said that it is compassion in the form of respectful disagreement.

    Good Bye Econo101 comments:

Fellow Americans:Criminal fraud spin excuses from Wall Street and Washington DC, we have not hit the bottom with job losses, Currency crisis coming in the fall, IMF a creditors cartel, we find ourselves faced with major growing unemployment, falling wages and via inflation and ever lower purchasing power, Most major banks and brokerage houses are insolvent, Finances at the state and local levels are a mess.
The excuses coming out of Wall Street and Washington are truly mind-boggling. We wonder how the public swallows them. One of the latest is that for one-week applications for jobless benefits had fallen. That is good, but we’d need a number of weeks of reduction for the fall to be meaningful. Anything to keep the market from falling. This has been followed by a long line of liars telling us we had bottomed out in the economy. The same litany we’ve been hearing for 22 months. Unemployment is a lagging indicator thus; the increases have yet to end. The latest bogus unemployment figures are 8.9% short term, including the birth/death ratio. That is phantom jobs created by the government supposedly by small and medium sized companies. That 8.9% supposedly matched up with the worst of the 1974 recession. That is not true, because the formula in 1974 was far different than today’s monstrous lies. The 1974 figures did not include the birth/death ratio, those working reduced hours and those in part-time employment seeking full-time jobs, which now makes up 2.6% of the workforce. Then there is the 1% plus that is discouraged and have left the workforce and probably won’t return.
Once unemployment has bottomed it could take a year or more before employers begin to rehire. They have to be sure increased demand exists and that the economy is recovering.
Today job losses are not only blue-collar, but white-collar as well. Due to free trade, globalization, offshorting and outsourcing those jobs won’t come back. They could return if Congress passed legislation implementing tariffs on goods and services. All those manufacturing jobs will never return unless Congress acts. If they do not act the economy is permanently doomed. Presently as many white-collar jobs as blue-collar are being lost. Mechanics cannot easily work in healthcare and the wages are a little more than one-third of what they were earning.
In 16 months the government admits that 5.7 million jobs have been lost. In the previous 8 years we lost over 5 million. Just to show you how serious this is, in 8/1981 to 12/1982, we lost 2.8 million jobs. In 3/2000 to 5/2002 we lost 2.2 million. Over 9 years we have lost 10.7 million jobs “officially.” We’ll never know what the real figure was. Can you imagine all the lost wages that left America to pay people in China, India and Mexico, etc.?
In addition, we haven’t even addressed the new people entering the workforce. Students with degrees who owe $60,000 or more for their education and cannot get jobs, because elitist transnational corporations have shipped their jobs to low wage countries. You are witnessing mass suicide of an entire country - up until now the leading country in the world.
We are looking at layoffs as far as the eye can see and that means no recovery and at the very best a flat no growth economy.
Americans, professionals and investors have to eventually come to grips with officially sanctioned bogus accounting. That includes FASB rule changes to accommodate Washington, bank and Wall Street. Then there are the Credit Value Adjustments used to elevate corporate earnings statements. This is when banks write down credit losses, then claim they can now be bought back and booked as gains, as the SEC looks the other way. These are losses claimed as gains. This is fraud, yet, nothing is done about it. This has been rife at the SEC since its inception. The big illuminist firms are left alone. The SEC pursues small and medium securities firms and brokers and newsletter writers. The SEC is an integral part of the elitist Wall Street cabal, part of a major criminal enterprise.
Is it any wonder investors and retirees are disturbed? Home equity is down 30% to 40%, savings accounts are big losers due to inflation and pension funds are off 35% to 50%. Where does one go to protect their assets?

Future is Crustal clear for USA Bamboozled coward Generation with no balls to fight Tyranny. This is the future into 2010:

Foreign Governments lost trust in USA and this teh first action taken by them:Dubai asked for their gold to be delivered from London and Germany from the USA

OABAMA(Chicago Mob Shill) administration has set a new and unfamiliar course for America. The demands of labor unions now supercede these of debt holders. This move will haunt the American capital markets far into the future. Centuries of legal precedent have been overturned by executive fiat. Bond buyers will be very careful what they buy in the future and how long they hold the bonds. The sanctity of contract no longer exists. There no longer is a rule of law. The law is what the President says it is. We can imagine the negative affect this is going to have on investment by foreigners in the US as well as foreigners further holding of dollars. Capital will now feel unsafe in America and you can expect capital to flee such a capricious government. America is no longer the safest harbor for capital. This capital will now begin to move elsewhere and into gold.

For Americans this trend set over the last eight years is ominous. It will spill over into everyday life. Boy Scouts being trained to pursue terrorists with weapons as Hitler did with the Hitler Youth. The tearing up of legal contracts. Removing children from their parents because they won’t use failed medical treatments. Removing people from their homes so banks can steal them. Forced inoculation of all in government initiated flu epidemics. The federalization of police. The refusal to rid our nation of 30 million illegal aliens. Limits on safety and travel. The control of assets of Americans worldwide with eventual currency controls. The continued nationalization in banking, brokerage, insurance and manufacturing and the concentration into monopolies similar to the experience of fascist Germany and Italy in the 1930s and 40s. Do not think it can’t happen here – it can and is already happening.

By this fall America will be headed for a currency crisis, perhaps much sooner. The dollar’s rally ended months ago at 89.50 on the USDX. It closed recently at 82.51. The latest upward blip was on short covering. Get set for another downward move. This is what happens when you have bogus rallies created by de-leveraging. It is only a matter of time before the Treasury and the Feb become completely isolated from foreign investment and then they will only have the printing presses left. That means your money and your assets will have fallen in value 60% to 95%, except for the only true money, gold and silver.

Last week the Senate voted to give illegal aliens access to Social Security benefits.

The Treasury is going to try to get $108 billion for the IMF by sneaking it through as a supplement to funding for Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. This way it can avoid any congressional debate over the policies of the IMF. It is neither a wise and just use of tax dollars, and whether congress should insist on meaningful, observable reforms of IMF policy as the price of new US funding.

For the past 28 years the IMF and the World Bank have become a creditors cartel. They dictated all terms and if recipients wavered they had their credit cut off. They imposed agendas of privatization, cuts in social spending, and demanded removal of policies deemed obstacles to profit by foreign banks and corporations. In recent years Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina have opted out, but the poorest countries such as in Africa are entrapped in there clutches. The IMF doesn’t deserve to be funded via more US tax dollars. It like the World Bank and the Fed should be disbanded.

This week the Senate is considering the supplemental and if the money for the IMF is not stripped out it goes to a House-Senate conference committee.

At worst the IMF should have its feet held to the fire. At best we cannot afford another $100 billion debt. This money should be spent on poor and hungry Americans who have lost their jobs.

The last year of life contains 30% of individual life health costs. I believe the administration is going to recommend premature death for those with terminal problems, all in the hope of cutting costs, so they can spend their funds for more wars. Both will help with population control. The termination of useless eaters.
