Interview Quotes

“I don’t believe he was in full comprehension of what he was doing,” Ruslan Tsarni, uncle of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, told Savannah Guthrie. Tsarni claims ‘a radicalization’ took hold of his older nephew, and that he believes both boys were ‘just executors’ of something bigger.

The uncle of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects told TODAY Saturday that he believes Dzhokar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev were pawns in a deadly scheme.

“I strongly believe they were just puppets and executors of something of bigger scale,” Ruslan Tsarni told Savannah Guthrie.

He said Dzhokar, the younger of the brothers, was “used by his older brother. He’s just another victim of his older brother. He victimized others, but he’s been used by his older brother.”

Tsarni, a Maryland resident who is the brother of the suspects’ father, believes Tamerlan, 26, who died in a confrontation with police early Friday morning, was radicalized by others.  He noted that the suspects were in his house as children, and recalled a surprising transformation the last time he saw Tamerlan in 2009.

Boston Bomber Should Have Been Deported After 2009 Arrest

The slain Boston Marathon bombing suspect should have been deported in 2009, said Chris Farrell with Judicial Watch.  Farrell said 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev was in the United States after being offered asylum but should have been deported after being convicted of domestic violence.

"DHS, did nothing," he said. "Makes no connection between his criminal behavior and his status of trying to gain citizenship here."

Described as being full of rage by a worshiper who would give his name only as Muhammad, Tamerlan was ejected from the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center three months ago for claiming that Martin Luther King Jr. was not a man Muslims should look to emulate.

Bomber Was Kicked Out Of Uncle's House For Extremist Views

One of the Boston bombing suspects set off alarm bells among his family a year ago during a trip here to visit relatives, ABC News has learned.  According to a family member, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, a devout Muslim, was kicked out of his uncle's house because of his increasingly extremist views on religion.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev spent roughly six months in Russia in 2012, but the relative, who insisted on anonymity to avoid offending other family members, insisted the young man had been radicalized in the United States before his trip.
