All politicians lie but there are always enough young voters who haven't figured it out yet to get them elected. When voters get old enough to figure it out (or read a history book) they stop voting --- or go viral, as you put it.

Neither option causes politicians to stop lying but only to tell bigger and better lies.

I predict the voting age will be reduced to 10 years of age, so there will be a few voters left for the next election.

Times have changed... this not to say that politicians didn't lie in the past, they just didn’t lie as often and never with the confidence that today’s politician has... Also, in the past there were always repercussions when they were caught... Today, not so much.... Today their fellow politicians defend and protect them, along with their affiliated parties and the mainstream media...
Just like our criminals today... there is little to nothing in-place to slow them down... They just keep doing it because there is more benefit than punishment...
I personally think the people in this, once great country, have no one to blame but themselves... You will not hold these crooks accountable... You refuse to mandate personal responsibility or accountability... When the very rare candidate comes up, and attempts to tell you the truth, you vote for the liar because you like what he said better... You don't want the truth, because deep down in the pit of your soul, you no longer feel that yearning to be free anymore! You have become complacent, fat, lazy, and insecure...
