« Bush's Deficits Were Enormous, But They Are Dwarfed By What Obama Has In Store »

'The Limits of Blaming Bush'   [Veronique de Rugy]

President Obama never tires of blaming President Bush for the deficit our nation faces. Tobe sure, the Bush-era deficits were bad. I spent a great deal of time in the last eight years protesting our last president’s lack of fiscal responsibility (here and here, for instance). And yes, a large part of the fiscal 2009 deficit was the result of policies instituted by Bush during his last year in office.

However, FY2009 is over. In fact, the president just requested funding for FY2011. It is time for Obama to act like an adult, and as the president, and stop blaming his predecessor for the fiscal irresponsability in Washington.

Yes, Bush enacted a horrible prescription drug benefit and tax cuts that didn't improve matters.  But the net increase in interest on the Federal debt under Bush was dwarfed by the current and future projected deficits, and will naturally shrink further as inflation returns.  And the tax cuts expire this year.  The proponents of blaming every single bad thing that happens on one George W. Bush offer the wan defense that, after all, it would be hard to not extend the tax cuts.

I have a serious question for the people who are mounting this defense:  at what point in his presidency is Obama actually responsible for any bad thing that happens?  Two years?  Five?  Can we pick a date for when bad things that happen on Obama's are actually in some measure the responsibility of one Barack Obama, rather than his long gone predecessor?  And then stick with that date?  Conversely, can we agree that as long as the bad things that happen are really George Bush's fault, any good things that happen should probably be chalked up to his administration as well?

I've said it since the election, the democrats did not win, the republicans were voted out. Criminals like Nancy Palosi, Barney Frank and Barak Obama did exactly what the republicans did, they just did it bigger. Soon, these criminals will all be ousted from their ivory towers. I hope those voted into office go after these kickback politicians.

Once the sheeple get tired of being reamed by the Democrats they'll vote THEM out of office and switch majority support back towards the Republicans ..who will INEVITABLY fuck things up even further before the whole cycle starts anew.

Rinse, lather and repeat ...ad nauseam.

Those who fail to learn from their mistakes BECOME THE UNITED STATES!

Yep. The people in the US don't get to vote for any real change. At best, they only vote for which group of criminals robs them. Like it's just some bizarre reality show.
